Custom Aero, the trigger has been pulled

Denny Calder from Aero contacted me regarding the mix up and pointed out that, regarding the kidney panel, it was a misunderstanding, as you have to specify that they remove both panels, inside and outside one when you request this modification (Monitor mentioned this too).
Something I wasn't made aware of and I think that is good to point out in case somebody reading this is thinking of ordering a Sheene without such panels.
The lining was a mistake on their part and he's thinking on a way to compensate, as I am not keen on sending the jacket across the world and back for reasons already mentioned.
The jacket is epic and I'm used to the black lining. I think I would still rather the olive lining to be honest, but the black one makes the jacket look pretty badass. [emoji41]

Thanks for the heads up on the kidney panel. I've got an Aero Sheene in the queue, and I'll definitely have to double check to make sure there's no misunderstanding on my order.

Carrie did mention that to me for my pending Sheene as well, they have to specifically say no inner or outer kidney panel as the inner one has a tendency to show through over time.

Not sure what you mean by "kidney panel"? If you mean the leather on the inside bottom back,
I strongly suggest keeping it. They talked me out of it, but now the lining is torn down there.
Very nice fit.

Fonzie I reckon that looks bonza, mate. The back will settle down when it relaxes. She's a keeper. The only issue you will have is having enough days down here that are cold enough for a thick leather. I had a nice Aero half-belt in FQHH but never wore it because there was always a nice goat-hide or light calfskin jacket around that was easier to wear.

Cheers mate, so far it has been a very warm Autumn here in Adelaide.
Definitely not heavy leather weather, but I'm hoping I'll be able to use it fairly regularly from late April to early September.

exactly what the name suggests, I guess! At the location of your kidneys you have actually three layers of leather for protection.

Well Fonzie, I'm very late to the party here & can only echo the positive comments that have already been made.
The deletion of the kidney panel only refers to removing the external piece, unless specifically agreed to something different. I asked for no kidney panel on my sheene & have exactly the same as you. As someone else mentioned, it will actually help the lining last as it won't be rubbing up against the belt loops on your jeans etc.
the fit is great & will settle down with some wear. It will 'shape' with use and although the FQHH might not ever achieve a true 'soft hand', it'll still be wonderful to wear.
Congrats on a super jacket, just in time for our cooler weather.

No, I'm not sure at all.
I love the jacket & it now fits like a glove. If I were just 1.5" wider across the body, it'd be perfect.
It works well open, just not zipped.
Oh well, the relentless pursuit of the perfect fit continues.......

Make sure that coat hanger you're using is a big old wooden monster capable of supporting the weight of the jacket and keeping the shoulder shape, otherwise you risk stretching the leather and distorting the fit. Useful thread on this:

Bit late to the parfty too, but it certainly does look like a solid hit! The jacket looks amazing and the fit is spot on. As others have said, the inside kidney panel will prevent from fraying the lining, and I don't think it detracts from the comfort at all. The only point that would be somewhat bugging me is the lining. Now, as you said, it's only noticeable by you, and you seem to get accustomed to it.

As others have said, it gives an extra layer of support and so just that little bit of extra protection in a vulnerable spot should you have a spill. I suspect that to some limited degree itg may also be an evolutionary echo of the 'kidney belts' worn by many early motorcyclists, such as this:

The point of ther kidney belt was mainly to tighten up and help support your midsection, giving greater comfort on a longer ride. still widely available now, in leather, neoprene, velcro, the works, though modern motorcyclists seem to be split on whether they are a good idea or not. You also still see similar support belts being worn by weightlifters.

I think keeping the inner kidney panel not only protects the lining but also get you a nice drape as the back is heavier at the bottom.
