Size 40:

Armpit: 24"
Back Length: 26.5"
Shoulder Width: 20.5"
Sleeve Length: 26.5"

WOW! That's a size 40? Looks kind of close to G&B's sizing IMO. For example, I'm a 44, and a great fit in an A-2 for me (NOT a tight fit) is:

Pit-Pit: 23.5-24"
Length: 25.5-26"
Shoulders: 19.5"
Sleeves: 25.5-26"

I am 5' 11.5" tall, have a 44" chest, float between 185-190lbs, and have a 36" waist. The shoulders on the above 40 would certainly droop on me, and the sleeves and back length would be too long....

I have tried on the current G&B A-2 jackets at their store in El Cajon and they fit larger than my Cockpit jacket. The G&B jackets are cut really disproportionally large in the body and short in the sleeves and body for me. I really tried making G&B work but their cuts just don’t match up with my body type.

I am 6’2”, 185lbs, 42” chest and have broader shoulders. My shoulders work well in leathers that have a 20-20.5” shoulder width. Sometimes I have to trade off for a bit more room in the waist for more room up top - it is definitely a balancing act.

I would say the size 40 in the Cockpit may work for you, but maybe could try a 38 too just to see.

I've owned 3 G&B flight jackets in size 42 - they all had the same measurements as the 42 Cockpit USA jacket in terms of each mesurment. Maybe a touch smaller. But that's still oversized. A G&B size 40 tall is a perfect size 42 fit for me.
