Hi guys,

Just wondering how many of you own the current mil spec Cooper A2 (goat), what you think of it and how does it compare to the likes of the Aero, Eastman etc...........

I don't own one, but the *current* mil-spec model has handwarmer and wallet pockets, multi-piece backs, synthetic knits, and a big blousy fit - it's a very different animal from any of the repros, even the lower-end ones like US Authentic's. The previous mil-spec model, which is still widely available, is a bit closer, but still a far cry from replicating the original 30s/40s jackets.

If you don't really care, Coopers are fine. But if you want something closer to the originals, look to the other makers...

oh ok, maybe I described the wrong model, I mean't the Cooper A2 conforming to the WW2 standard specs, no hand warmer or inside pocket and a one piece back in chocolate brown goatskin.

My husband has one. I guess it is an older one because it doesn't have the handwarmer pockets and all that. He bought it new about 2 years ago. It has a one piece back, etc. It is a very nice jacket, but it doesn't compare to even US Authentic (I just got one from them and it is a fantastic quality jacket, spot on). Coopers seem to be cut much roomier than the others. It is a good jacket if you are starting out or if you want something for just "around town" - but it definitely doesn't hold a candle to Eastman, US Authentic, or any of the other big makers.

If I was currently serving as a pilot in the modern USAF...

I'd privately purchase a top end WW2 styled A-2 to go with my flight gear. I dare say that there are officers/aircrew out there who have taken this course of action, just to look 'that bit sharper!' The issue A2s just don't cut the mustard as far as I'm concerned.

As I know here in the UK, there are service men who take that extra bit of pride in their appearance and will splash out of their own pocket on getting issued items 'tailored' slightly to look that bit sharper!! Now that's taking pride in things. Hopefully, a few men/women who take that extra bit of pride in their uniforms and daily turnout will rub off on the others who see them.
