For the most part, true. However, some dinner jackets made in the early to mid-1920s had sleeve cuffs. I've seen them in person. Also, sleeve cuffs were offered as an option for business (and collegiate) suits in the 1930s. (Even the Sears catalogue offered them!)

We still don't have a picture of this mysterious suit jacket (not a tux jacket or anything that resembles a tux jacket) with cuffs.

Here, again, is the original post:

One thing I never see on modern suits is the cuff on the sleeve of the actual coat. I was curious if you fellas could enlighten me on origins, or why they died out, or if any of you guys have got them on your fine apparel? Alot of the crooners in the vegas/sharkskin era had them. Frank had them as early as the 40's. Well, men of knowledge. Please enlighten. Cheers, Kevin

If Kevin means a lounge jacket - shawl collar/cuffs - then that is not the same as a suit jacket. Yes, you can have wild rockabilly lounge jackets with leapord collar and cuffs, and you can have a teddy boy knee-length coat, and I'm sure there have been crazy Carnaby Street mod jackets with cuffs (that I would certainly wear) but I'm under the impression Kevin is looking for, and has seen, a regular American suit that has cuffs. One that Sinatra would feasibly wear, because, really, I can't picture Sinatra in a teddy boy rigout of velvet cuffs and collar.

Marc, do you have any scans of the catalog suits with these cuffs? And sorry if I'm going on about this, but it's like a sociologist hearing about a lost tribe.

Regards,

Senator Jack

Thank you, Tomasso. See, now we're talking about two different things here. I see this as a western suit. Shiny sharkskin, yes, but something Forrest Tucker and large rockabilly guys would wear, and not the Rat Pack. Had Mr. Malby written 'I saw Forrest Tucker wearing this suit when he appeared on Laugh-In,' I probably would have a a better image in my head.

Okay, now I can definitely say, 'not interested'. :D

LeBaron made suits with straight pockets as well.
