Cowboy Boots

For quite some time these have been my “holy grail boots” — vintage tan suede western work boots with a lugged sole. Found a pair in my size on eBay, and they arrived yesterday! It was hard getting my heels down into the boots, but once I did, wow! They’re so comfy and soft! The auction said that the brand is unknown but that the boots were made in the USA. Actually, they're most likely Wolverine boots, as I know they once made an identical boot.

Oh, since apparently you’re limited to 3 photos per post, I’m including one more here. Since the boots are kinda retro-looking, I figured, why not wear retro-looking socks as well?

Gentlemen,
The Lucchese hippos I purchased need heel caps and something done with the soles.

I really like the double pegged soles and though it's hard to see here, the arch over the shank. The full treatment is rather expensive from a rebuilding specialist and I'm not sure if they would keep those attributes. A leather half sole should be fine as they will be worn in a rotation.

How do you feel about half soles?

I hope everyone is staying healthy, things are dicey here in NY.

It's a roll of the dice. They're perfectly fine if done right. If not, though, the shank will split the half sole away from the rest of the boot when walking and you'll have a mess. I have had this happen, so I know. But also I have a pair with half soles that have lasted for years with no trouble. Just make sure whoever you have do the work knows how to work on cowboy boots. They're a different animal than regular shoes entirely. The half sole has to come up a lot farther under the instep....almost to the heel.

Howdy:
I don't get on here very much, but wanted to share my new Osuna's. I was looking for a work boot to replace my Ariat's--those fit me like buckets and I don't like the broad square toe. These are made with oily Bison leather for the vamp and top, with a composition sole that Estaban says will outlast leather 10 to 1. They are a bit heavy due to using the thick/heavy leather all the way up, but they should break in nice and last a lifetime. The stovepipe tops were Esteban's idea and I was fine with it (first pair I've had). I tried not to "overthink" the design which I typically do, haha. They're obviously not going to be as "cushy" as Ariats, but I'll likely add a thin insole, and they fit my hard to fit feet as they are made-to-measure. Esteban is awesome to work with and has taken great care of me!

Those are nice! Glad to hear you had a great experience & that Osuna is doing well. My pair of Osuna Sharks are wearing well.

So....apparently yesterday was national boot day. Who even knew? Anyway, between all the covid 19 and the tornados we had around here the night before, I completely overlooked it, so I snapped a pic in my closet today to mark the occasion.
