My Lucchese, Thrift store find, Justins, lizard wingtips, Thrift store, black label Tony Lamas (John Travolta style from Urban Cowboy). The Lizards fit perfectly, Lucchese are one size to big 10, need a 9.5. If anyone has similar boot for trade? Color, inlays etc. let me know. Geo

Stewarts that were listed as being from ‘77 but really just a logo copyrighted in 77. Probably from within the last 10 years. No creases on the vamp and they suched up conditioner like they had never had anything applied to the leather. Still decent boots for what I paid, not great but wearable.
The leather is very soft and flexible, likely no breaking necessary when they were new.

Then there is the stuff that bugs me. The reed at the shaft opening is either really bad design or there was no quality control going out the door. The reed seems to sit between the edges of the liner and the shaft exterior.

The hybrid construction, 360 Goodyear welt and pegged shank. Not sure why anyone would want to do this.

All that said, I’ll probably keep them because they’re comfortable and the 13B fits my just a little long to be a 12d foot.

There can be a learning curve on boots, Richard. Fortunately this lesson wasn't too expensive and you've got some wearable boots.

I've never seen beading at the top of the shaft finished out quite that way but I have seen some as fat as worms and too many made of plastic.

The sole construction could be a holdover from when it was Stewart-Romero boots. They were making boots in Hollywood and all the examples I've seen had a full welt with single rows of pegs, though executed to a high standard and the boots were all handmade during that period. Not being a bootmaker I can only guess that the soles were pegged to help hold the arch in place before the sole is sewn.
