I have an exact pair of these two tone boots with the toe cap in Tony Lamas. Bought new 12-15 years ago, could never wear as broke foot and now size 13. These are still in the box. Some one email me if interested in buying any. There are more.

I'll third that question ! BTW Congratulations beating the Gators in 2013 , that was a shocker . I'm with HJ and Bob , what size are they and what else do you have ? Boy size 13 is massive , like Roy D. Mercer says , "How big a Ol' Boy are you ?" in his prank calls . Sorry about the broken foot . Show and Tell ... , on the Boots that is .

I like my Rocket Busters for kicking cow piles and stomping roaches when they crawl into a corner.

Hello gentlemen. I've been toying with the idea of buying a decent pair of cowboy boots for years, saw this thread and thought I should ask the experts for some advice.
I do currently own a pair of made-in India pigskin-lined cheapos with wood heels that hurt my bad ankle when I walk, and as a result they are rarely worn. So next pair will be custom made.
I've figured out the basic style and materials, but haven't thought through all the details. I'm really no expert, but would like them to be as "real deal" and definitive as possible.
Do you have any suggestion or reccomendation? Spur ledge or no? Perfect heel height? Details I might not be thinking about?
Thanks for all the help

Hi Paololital. I would recommend you take a look at Lucheese boots. They are hand made in El Paso, Texas and are durable and comfortable. Do a google search and you can find their website.

Thanks fellas. I just went over the last 20 pages of this thread, great infos and great pics, the posted videos were especially interesting.
As for the boots I have in mind, I am considering a few Mexican makers... not sure if their style would be any different from US ones.
What I know so far is that I want a pair of boots that wouldn't be too gaudy, in brown waxed rough out with contrast stitching. 2' or 2' 1/4 heel and 12' or 14' shaft.
But I still have a lot of studying to do to figure out the details and what their function is (heel slope, piping etc.). This seems like the right place to learn!

So next pair will be custom made.

Hi and welcome to the cowboy boot thread. I'm no expert but there are a number of us here that have some knowledge and experience with cowboy boots, both custom and off the shelf.
My first thought is when you say "custom" are you referring to a handmade boot or a MTM (made to measure) boot? If you mean hand made, there are several choices out there including makers who make MTM boots that also have boots in stock in standard sizes. If you are easy to fit, this is the least expensive way to go. I saw in another post that you mentioned Mexican made boots and there are some good ones out there. Without knowing which maker(s) you're referring to its's impossible to comment.

As to the style of boot, heels toe shape and such, that's a personal preference. I have boots ranging from walking heels to a 2 1/2" heels and toes from found to narrow. I prefer a taller heel and narrower toe. The one common denominator is they all have leather soles and stacked leather heels with a rubber heel cap. I have boots with and without a spur ledge. I like the looks of a spur ledge and for practical purposes they keep the heel counter from being rubbed while driving a car. (accelerator burn) Plus, I used to ride horses a lot and typically rode with spurs.

I don't like riding a motorcycle with cowboy boots because I like leather soles on my cowboy boots, which are a bit slick and the shifter also mars the toe of the left boot. I prefer a heavy lace up boot or engineer type boots for bike riding.

If you are traveling to this country we can direct you to a number of custom makers but the wait time can range from three months to two years or more. I've included some links to a couple of makers that offer stock boots and also offer MTM boots where one takes their own measurements and tracings and mail them back to the maker.

Paola, have you ever tried on a pair of Sendra cowboy boots? They are made in Valencia, Spain so I'm sure you could find them retail somewhere near you. If you like the style they make a pretty good boot & you would be able to check the fit making sure they don't rub your ankle.

My personal preference is for a top that is at least 14" & really like 16". A 12" top is what we might call a "peewee" & your pant leg will hang up on the top a lot. I prefer a 2-1/2 - 2-3/4" cowboy heel with a narrow 2A type of toe.

Again, if you can find a Sendra retailer you can check out what you like best.

Thanks. I checked out the sites linked and found good infos (and I just learned what "boot tongue" refers to). The Spain company would make for a more convenient process, but I feel an authentic pair of boots should be American-made (well Mexico is close enough ;)).
I can't remember the name of the Mexican makers I got in touch with (it was a couple of years ago), I'll have to do some email digging. But they were recommended to me and seemed affordable, so that's the way I'll go.

Jack, what is a 2A toe? I've looked it up but each maker seems to have their own number and codes. I like a tapered round toe.

Bama, by custom I mean a handmade boot by my specifications and measurements.

Now for some questions: what is a "toe brace"? Is there a purpose to the side piping or is it just esthetical? Is there one to the so called "underslung" heels? Or to toe wrinkles?
I've seen similar toe wrinkles before on motorcycle boots (I think only on the left one) and assumed it was somehow to aid in shifting gear.
Talking about shifter marking the toe, Bama, I've avoided that by having wrapped the shifter pedal in a small piece of white cloth, that I will change from time to time. Yes I can be a bit anal sometimes. :D

I remember when Square Toe Boots with the rings and straps were popular (never owned any) (still not a Square Toe fan) , Stacks , and the Boots that had a zipper on the side (worn with Levi giant Bell Bottoms) . But then there was the TL crew , I think it was around then when the Bone with Lizard Tips were popular . I liked them and had a Pair . I remember a Blue , and a Tan Brown . Mine were the Tan Brown . ... 70s , Death before Disco ...

I think they've destroyed all the pictures of the short top Tan Stacked Heel with the zipper Boots , couldn't find any . I think Dingo , or Laredo made them , I thought it was Dingo . TL may not have made the Blue wing-tips with white lacing down by the toe tip , I recall . Didn't spot them , either .
I wore out several pairs of those snub toed Dingo harness boots as a little feller.....and I had a pair of that style wingtips in High School back in the early 80s. They were very popular at the time. I still like the looks of them, and have often considered getting another pair. Mine weren't Tony Lamas, though, probably Laredo or one of the cheaper brands. I didn't own any TLs or anything else like that til I was out in the world earning my own paychecks.

Not sure about the "toe brace" but cowboy boots have a toe box consisting of stiffened leather box or a synthetic material, one commonly used is called celastic. This is done to help the toe keep its shape. Piping is mostly decorative. The boot tops are typically in two pieces and the dividing line is the piping. Contrasting colors are often used in piping. Toe wrinkles are decorative and it has been discussed that they are functional in that they create a natural point of flex in the boot as the foot moves. Toe bugs/flowers are decorative and most boot fans like them. Under slung on a heel refers to the rake of the heel from the back of the boot to the point where the heel makes contact with the ground. I've included some examples.

I thought it was Laredo that made those others with the Blue , white lacing , I loved them . I thought that harness would get hung on something . Funny I remember the first round toes I saw , it was around 78 I think , didn't really like them , but eventually they grew on me . I've had every toe except for that square box toe like the dingos , and the "in-style" square toe that's "the thing" now . As square as I've ever gone was the A and B toe , just the tip . The New things look like duck bills to me , but to each their own . I may change my opinion one day . But I doubt it . My daughter says I'm set in my ways . Everything seems to cycle back around .

Paola : Many times when softer leathers are used you can see the toe box after wearing them a while , just like Bama said they just keep the toe shape , and the toe from collapsing from the soft leather . Several styles use them (maybe about all of them), I like what Wilson's says about it , and square toe Boots . If you look on eBay at Boots , you'll notice the toe box on some .

Thanks again for the useful informations, fellas.
Michael, I really like the type of leather used for the vamps of your recent Paul Bond's. Was that waxed or oiled suede? What is that extra piece of leather over the heel?
