I like these Austin Halls better. Always wanted a pair of black & white dress boots ever since I saw those Oldsmobile Rocket 88 boots.

Those Austin Halls are my size, and that's not a bad price at all, and I'm sorely tempted in spite of already having these.

It's those right there that put me on the hunt for a pair. Those listed are pristine, which a rarity. I think that pair has been listed for awhile. Maybe they'll negotiate.

I take mine outside with a bucket of warm water with Ivory dish soap and use a sponge to wash them well inside and out. Ivory is ph balanced and doesn't remove color or harm the leather. When I'm satisfied with the cleaning I change to clean warm water and rinse with a sponge until the soap is gone and allow them to dry. Then I treat them inside and out with a leather conditioner, Bickmore 4 is what I use. Never had an issue.

I don't use saddle soap as it contains glycerin and leaves a residue.

thanks. will try that. ive put baking soda in them overnight and rubbed leather cleaner with a cloth but the ivory soap with a sponge is probably easier. will try that

Baking soda is great at removing odors but it is an abrasive. If it's put a inside a boot it will seek out every nook, cranny, thread and peg hole it can find. You'll never get it all out and over time it will assist in the boots having a come-apart. If you use it for odor control, put it in a small open container inside the boot for a couple of days and that should acclomplish the desired effects.

True but a red pair of boots seems a bit too far.
