OK, I waited about a year for these Boot Star Online Luccheses to come up on sale. Turns out they didn't have the 12 they said they did, so for my trouble they allowed me to custom order the exact sizing I need (12.5E left, 12E right) and they still gave me the 20% discount. And yes, I have an fondness for brown and blue together. Beautifully matched-Nile belly with corded buffalo calf as designed by Boot Star (exclusives).

Very glad you went for the Nile croc upgrade over the caiman. Those are stunning. Worth every penny (and quite a few pennies it was). Top Notch Purchase there!!!!! thanx for sharing.

Thx guys; I liked them the moment I first saw them--very distinctive colors and combo; I like their fairly plain designs. I was really deflated when I found the computer stock in error. But Xavier, their manager in LA had been working with me to get the finish restored on a pair of Rios Mercedes crocs that evaporated under a very soft buffer wheel, so he knew I was a serious customer. When he emailed me back a couple of days later and told me they'd custom order them at the discounted price, I was really thrilled. Then, last month, while out west, I stopped at the LasVegas store and asked the clerk to show them to me…and all of a sudden he lit up and said, "OH, your the guy from NY that we custom-oredered these for…I apologize for the stocking error, and am very glad you are getting your boots, they are among the nicest in our store."

The best part is how soft the garment tanned Nile belly is, not to mention the smoothness and gradation of the tiies.

Pinhead, those are handsome. I recently snagged a pair of gator tails, (scroll back a couple of pages). I tend to like more subtle skins/designs, but yours are tasteful and the JB Hill's I got are similarly low-key (at least for head/tail bumps). Heck, I'm so conservative (here in Upstate NY) my stingrays are all-over chocolate--no diamond eye staring back at you!

And that's the cowboy boot wisdom of the week: Wearing them certainly does make one "feel especially dandy!"

I'd vote to put that on the home page here,,,,,if we had one.

Earlier this spring I posted looking for recommendations for an honest pair of roper/work boots. Finally decided to pull the trigger on a pair of Red Wing "Pecos" (1178). RW does not stock them so they are US made to order. Wow! Almost too nice to wear for work. They fit like a glove and are increadibly well made. The only negative is the cork compound sole. Tough and quiet but will be slick as snot on frost and snow but I'll deal with that later. Cost $239 + tax and worth every penny.

Interesting DoubleGun, How about a pic? Red Wing has made their way into high-end "fashion" catalogs and posts lately (Michael at A Continuous Lean posts about them a lot--I think they are a PR contract of his) and thus I presume they are doing well.

What caught my attention was your mention of a "cork compound" sole: I just bought at Barney's NY a pair of French casual/field shoes by Yuketen & Heschung that feature a patented cork/rubber compound that I thought interesting. This struck me as typical French engineering--using a common natural compound to lighten and yet provide elasticity to rubber; but maybe it isn't French after all. Do you know anything more about them?

I'll try to get pics up over the weekend. Couple of things though: the soles are virtually identical to those on the Iron Rangers. Nice, practical but downright dangeous on ice and snow. These are not a new design or their upscale boots. This model has been around for decades. They used to be one of their top sellers but times have changes and now none of the stores stock them.

They really are nice boots but they are meant for hard work and that's what I am going to do with them. Pics up ASAP.

The boot store guy says their description of Rios sizing is "short and wide." I don't find mine short, but I am an E and find their D comfortable, even across my very high instep.

Thanks. I ordered 12D, same as my Lucchese, Frye and Redwing boot. They seem a little tight across the top, but not too bad. Bottoms are buffed elephant, which my cowboy friends assure me will never wear out. The stitching on the upper is remarkable - so detailed and so well executed. Kills me these are really working boots, not pretty poser boots that look good (from a distance) and are not meant for real work. They offer three different soles; leather, hybrid (like mine) and a Vibram, all of which are pegged, not just sewn or glued into place. The white stitching is another Rio's thing - not sure how t protect that for ever. Suggestions?

Rio's has a standard inventory of several basic boots that are all very nice but the really cool boots are all custom made for different retailers. Boots and More out of MO was the only place I found this particular combination and even then I had to wait 4-months until they re-stocked them.

My Lucchese boots are only for posing. They tend to make other partygoers make a quick U-turn and a hasty retreat.

My other boots are dirty, smelly, scuffed and broken in like they were molded to my feet.
