Cowboy Boots

Anybody have any tips or can point me in the right direction?

Thanks Rob. I did read this. Yeah, mid-road boots, nothing special. All the overlay/underlays made me envision something a bit more colorful if worked on.
Maybe i should ask here if there is a good way to strip the color off the bottoms then re-dye? Heck, my first thought was a Dremel tool but probably be hard on the stitching. Idk

If you must strip, denatured alcohol will do the job. Go slow, it will strip the finish fast! Start by putting a little on rag, and start rubbing. At Tandy Leather you can get dye called Cova dye, that is opaque, like paint, if that's what you want. Also a more translucent dye and laquer mixture, called all in one.

Abba, concerning the Code West, I'm thinking they may be Mexican made like Corrals. They seem to specialize in this style of overlay.

A few months back I saw a pair of Corral's on Ebay and tried to make an offer but before it was accepted someone else got them. Same deal, nice overlays, now I have a search for the model number on Ebay since they are no longer made. They appeal to my inner bandido/Keith Richards/Desperado...I just like em'. Seem well made, pegged soles, not sure about the plastic on the soles though.

It's a good looking pair. I like the toe shape of them. Never had a pair of Corrals, but I imagine they're comparable in quality to a modern Justin or Tony Lama or Dan Post. Some of the Mexican makers turn out a pretty solid product. I wouldn't be surprised if they weren't even made in the same factory, seeing as a lot of the American label mass produced boots come from there now.

Qualified for "poor-man's Western boots"?

:D

PS:
Of course I know, they are just Chelsea boots.
Maybe not so much....unless you're a cowboy in Australia. They like their Blundstones there.

If your gonna go the Chelsea route, but want something western, get you some of the Cuban style ones, like in the second picture.

I agree Rob, Corral makes some pretty wild overlays. I’ve watched a bunch but never bought. They seem pretty well made. I like the ones you posted. B

In an effort to get this thread back towards "real cowboy" boots, belfastboy's roper's included, I ran across these. I love the color combo and they're some of the finest tulips I've seen. The finished pull window is something not often seen. From the angle of the pic it's hard to make out the toe. Looks French to me and if it is, along with a natural welt is all I would change. @belfastboy boy missed out on the possibility of something like this by going into Dillon on a Sunday.

Wow what a way to get on track! The turquoise piping is awesome, as is the stitching. Heel counters and colors are gorgeous!
