Bison is typically softer and thicker than shrunken shoulder/bullhide.
My bison chinks:I have a leather question and since the leather is contained in a boot I thought I would ask it here.

Is that bison leather?

A pair of Gene Autry's cowboy boots, made by Lucchese, given to Willie Nelson by Autry's widow. Nelson is a huge Autry fan. Nelson donated the boots along with other artifacts to the Dolph Briscoe Center for American History at U T Austin.

Beautiful boots--wish Lucchese was still at that level!
It's pretty easy to see the level this boot maker is at. Those are amazing.

I do?That's what made me think they were bison. The grain on shrunken shoulder is nearly as deep as elephant. I don't own any shrunken shoulder anymore but I know some cowboy hat wearing dude in Portugal that does.
I do?
If you are talking about the brown boots, I've been wearing them all week.
Temperatures are falling so I can wear them.Cool, Joao. They're bullhide or shrunken shoulder, as they're often referred to.

I though you said those were waxed calf.
oh, nice!No sir. The black are kangaroo and the brown are bullhide/taurus/shrunken shoulder, vamps and shafts.
oh, nice!
I love the kangaroos, but the bullhide/taurus/shrunken shoulder are also nice.Yes they are.

No but I still prefer a toe box like the brown ones.I'm glad you like them and I figured you would. I'm really happy they fit. That narrow box toe on the black ones wasn't difficult to get used to, was it?
Me too. If those boots were mine I would be tempted to save the tops by having new vamps made, knowing full-well it's cheaper & easier to just make a new pair.I like butterflies.
