Looks older, but could well have been done in early fifties. But, note it was listed in 1965-1976 category. One slip up like that and you snag a bargain, and the lister says good bye to $200 or so. Good score. Were you searching by keyword, or era? I would not think to look through that category.

I was just browsing through the various vintage categories, looking at the suits. I do that every now and then, especially since I've noticed that many of the great-vintage-suits-for-ridiculously-low-prices that Marc and others have posted here have been those that were poorly listed.

I still haven't come up with a good set of keyword searches that sifts through the non-vintage categories without pulling in a bunch of junk. Maybe one of these days Marc and Baron Kurtz will disclose their secret formulas.

For $530 they'd better have gold soles. ;) :p
I have a similar pair that I have worn with a suit. The rubber heels fell apart though and I have to have them replaced. :eusa_doh: [huh]

The buyer must be a big fan of that "Public Enemies" movie.

(And who knows if he/she will really end up paying! Deadbeat winners often bid high...)

That said, it is a truly spectacular 1930s overcoat!

.

ahem... hey now, be nice. It was me! lol

I decided I am going to sell two of my overcoats when the weather turns cooler and I can replace those with this as my regular coat and that makes the price of this about a third of the actual paid price. (Like how I made sense of that in my head!? haha) I have been hoping to acquire a back-belted 30's overcoat for a while. The Public Enemies connection I assume will not occur to often as most regular people won't have the attention span to remember what coat he wore by the time the weather changes. Could be wrong, time'll tell :)

Plus, as a go-to overcoat that I would be virtually living in here in NYC from November to March, there are worse coats to be stuck in :p

Another Not-a-Suit, but for anyone who thinks that evilBay's prices are ridiculously depressed at the moment, just look at how much this auction brought! Yes, that's right. One bid. The final price was the initial price.

I have one just like that in a size 36. I put it away, because it is summer. But maybe I should throw it up and try to get in on the dillinger thing. it is almost identical, and yes, a truly spectacular coat. I was thinking this winter I could get $150 for it, but maybe I will give it a shot. of course, he probably just got lucky. But taht movie tie in might help.

I have sold three black navy overcoats by calling it (rightfully so) a james Dean style. I posted pics of Dean in one. I was worried I would get pulled, as this is against the rules. But I guess if you have legit reason for tying in celebrity, then you can use name.

.

Are you suggesting the faux fur should have brought more? I gotta say, the Dillinger coat is going to be worth way more to most buyers, despite the fact tht the faux fir is interesting to us and unusual and rare.

Well, what do ya know. I considered offering the above mentioned size 36 here. But to be honest, I tend to think that most loungers can't, or won't pay top dollar or even close to it. Perhaps it is just that we know what things are worth and how to find a bargain. But I guess you prove my theory wrong. You don't have a little brother who wears a size 36 do ya?

More than $90, the BIN price it fetched? Yep, even in the summer. It's a very nice mohair "fur" in a size M/L -- not S, as the seller claimed.

I don't think --and didn't mean to suggest-- that the faux fur coat is worth anything near the Dillinger-esque one. Mike's new purchase is wonderful!

One Too Many
Oh yeah, that's definitely a great coat, and I've love to have one like it. But that asking price was way too rich for me, even in good times. Someday, I suppose...

Mike, if you're serious, then I hope you enjoy it! I want to see pictures come winter ;)
