Concealable purses

Hello ladies, after finding an interesting item on Ebay some time back, I became a slightly fascinated with the idea of hidden change purses or pouches meant for ladies who wish to conceal valuables such as cash and credit cards. We all know some ladies used to store flasks in their garters back in the 20s!

I'm curious - have you ever seen items like this? Have you used them? Would you? It seems a little gauche to pull something out of your bra, but do you think it would be handy to have a place to store a couple of items if you don't want to carry a purse, even if it means you have to discreetly duck away to the ladies room to fetch them?

I don't know.... discuss. For some reason I just find the idea intriguing.

Here is one sold by the Vermont Country Store that attaches in front to your bra or slip straps.

This one clips to your bra strap and was invented by a 58 year old lady after having her purse snatched. http://cydneyblu.com/

And my favorite, the Conceal-away garter purse, which attaches to your garter and is worn inside your stocking. This one is obviously vintage and is not big enough to hold a credit card. I've considered trying to make one that's larger, although I'm not sure how useful it would actually be.

I think you are right, KittyT..about it not being very graceful to pull something out of your bra. But I am guilty as charged. I have everything in there sometimes from money, to cell phone (its tiny) and the occasional lipstick tube in my cleavage.

I have never even see half of these contraptions, might be worth a try though.

I think they're a great idea, I'd love the freedom of not constantly having to carry a bag. But until they make novels small enough to fit in them... :eusa_doh:

BTW, Benefit makes a product like this (or at least they used to) called Chickster, which was a garter with a little pouch attatched for keys/credit card etc. And it came with a little solid scent compact too.

Well Sony does make electronic book readers now :)

See, this is what I was hoping to find out! Sephora doesn't list it, but I've found it for sale online.

I've only seen it in their catalogue but it seems very pretty. To be honest, I've found their 'Bathina' line to be the only products in their range worth the prices, unless you don't mind just paying for attractive packaging. Anyway, I doubt they can go that far wrong with a garter lol

I don't think that my bra would hold half of the things I need to carry (slightly too small), it's a good idea though I sometimes feel pretty vulnerable knowing that pretty much all of my valuables are in my handbag - particularly because I kind of unavoidably fall asleep on the train all of the time. Silly early mornings xxxx

They would be especially handy for travelling... but imagine the train conductors face when you start rummaging for your ticket in your bra

Now if they just designed one that filled out the bullet part of the bra - that would be fabulous.

I actually think those garter ones are darling.

I've seen some 20s coin purses hanging on chains. But I don't really know how the flapper girls wore them. I have also seen small powder puffs that supposedly was made for wearing on the garther so the flappers could powder their knees when they got flushed from dancing. This sounds very strange to me. Anybody knows about this purses and puffs?

Those are a great idea! I would definitely use one of those for going to a show or a club. It's such a pain having to hold your back all night, and sometimes even worse to check it!

Last time I was at a club and checked my bag there was such an intense and suffocating crowd at the coat check that it took over 30 minutes to "swim" through the people to give them my tag! So I'd definitely rather use one of those to keep my money in than a purse.

This would be wonderful for when I go dancing--you can't rightly have a bag in hand when your arm is around your partner! I'm always wary about leaving my stuff somewhere while I'm on the floor in my own little world.

Benefit's Chickster was offered a long time ago, soon after they introduced their scent Maybe Baby. It was a way to carry around your perfume with you wherever you went, as there is a little pot of solid perfume attached to the garter. I would have to say this is a few years old, and would be hard to find, even on ebay. Like trying to find those trioettes they used to carry.

We use them in the wedding industry for a couple things. There are the garter ones so the bride or bridesmaids can keep their $$, lipstick, keys etc close to them. But then we also use them in the waistband of the dresses for diabetic machines that girls need to keep on them at all times.

Breaks easily too  I still have mine but both lids have snapped off. Anyway I wonder why Benefit discontinued it, and the garter. I knew I should have bought one of those when I had the chance! [huh]

Unfortunately they have "phased out" a lot of their pretty items that first attracted me to benefit, and many of their better, IMHO, products. Not too into Benefit these days. And when they get rid of the Bathina shower cap, it will all be over. :(
