My husband and I purchased our first home about three or four years ago. It was built in 1984, but the style could almost pass as 50s because of the simple contemporary lines. I immediately tore out the bathroom. The shell shaped sink and orangey oakey vanity was too much. Like many home projects, something always took priority to this, and we finally finished it....... two weeks before we realized we qualified for a much larger home and sold our house! Anyway, now I will have a larger place to fill up a room with 50's atomic modern furniture!!!!:eusa_clap:eeek:
I wanted to share with you the end result. I am surprised at how many products are still being made that would've been period correct for this era. I hunted down soaps and shampoo's , found a lot at Walgreen's *surprisingly* and even Family Dollar! I used online places to find a push button light switch and plate. I went over the walls with plaster to give them a no-orange-peel aged look. I had some old famous newspapers reprinted for effect and ordered some vintage things offline through ebay. I found old medicine bottle labels, printed them out, then wrapped new bottles with them. My fav is the Vitameatavegamin one! I also finally found a place to hang the long pic of the Galveston Bathing Beauties thing I was in. I made a faux stained glass panel to stick over the old window in the shower. If you have any questions, ask I know it's not perfectly period, but it was lovely for those two weeks. I also realized I never want a white floor again.
