Comments You Get When You Dress Vintage

I was out running errands with the kids yesterday. I was sporting a Rosie the riveter look because my pin curls weren't quite dry. I was asked if I was wearing a real pendleton shirt. I wanted to ask if she knew of a place that sold repros cause I might wanna get one. lol lol

When I dress vintage, I usually get more looks than comments. I hardly ever wear vintage to school, considering how many rude looks and comments I got. I mostly wear vintage during the weekends, when I go into town (San Antonio). Most of the time, the only thing that I wear that is vintage is red lipstick, and I still get called, "Ms. Red Lipstick". Once people got used to it, they started asking me why I wasn't wearing it .

Actually i went to the pub this evening and the bartender told me i looked like Anjelica Houston. Which was interesting, as i don't look anything like her at all, (i wish).

Yes! I've ranted about it here, actually, I believe. I always want to tell people I dressed like this before vintage became trendy, and that I'm more interested in actual historical style icons than "vintage" celebs like Zooey Deschanel and Katy Perry, but alas, I'm too polite lol. Then there's the looks of surprise and disbelief when I tell people that yes, my dress is actually from the 50s (or whatever the decade may be), not an Anthropology or Urban Outfitters "vintage inspired" piece...

In work the other day and one of the many many people that I have to answer to suddenly looked at me and squealed "I LOVE your look!", and then proceeded to ask if I did it everyday (the hair, makeup and clothes)...I replied in a very flat monotone voice that yes I did...just had to bite my tongue and not say that I looked this way every other time she had seen me!

Yesterday I stopped by my parent's house for brunch all dressed up. Hat gloves, shoes, stockings, the works. My brother takes one look at me and says "What the heck! This is 2010!" My mother laughs and replies to him, "Oh, it's ok, she just likes to play dress-up." :eusa_doh:

I love dressing vintage or pinup ... it makes me fell ultra sexy and very well kept!!! who cares if its 2010.. i'd rather be all dolled up in a supermarket than with sweats and a stained shirt some gal's wear out

Today I got from a shopkeeper 'you look like a 1950s girl.' And a man walking by me said 'now, that's a good look!' Flattering. I was wearing the below, mix of vintage and new.

Today I got "I love your whole look". I was full vintage except me shoes, it was nice to get a compliment.

Today I went to an antique fair; I got a lot of sweet compliments from dealers especially who said I looked straight out of the 50s. But then I heard this man say to his wife, "oh look, she got dressed up all retro for the event". I'm not usually this bold, but for some reason I smiled politely at them and said, "actually, I dress this way everyday". Then they just looked sort of confused. Also on the bus some old man asked me whether I was on my way to work or going to a party. Umm, neither, I'm just a freaky dresser, I guess.

Oh, I was wearing a 50s red-and-white gingham shirtwaist dress with a crinoline, grey wool tights, my remix wedges, and a modern red cardigan with a gold letter-sweater style "D" on the front (that's my first initial). Red lip gloss and rag curls, too; I didn't think it was that over-the-top, maybe I'm going crazy lol

My son's friend (12 going on 44), tonight, when we went out for supper and i was in a forties dress, victory rolls, etc. He asked me what era my outfit was and then said, "Well i can't relate to it, but i like it"!! (Then spent the rest of the meal wearing my clip-on earrings as they were 'cool' too apparently!) lol lol lol

Yes he is an ace kid, he's a year older than my son and they have been friends since the first week of primary and now go to secondary school together. He's studious and quirky, the perfect combination!
