In Blacksburg, no doubt. I don't know about on the road.

Oh I have no doubt Red you are right. There will be a special remembrance at every away game. But from the athlete's perspective, they simply cannot get up emotionally for every game because of this shooting. It simply cannot be maintained every week for a season.

Beamer is a good coach and I have no doubt he will use this tragedy in some respectful way to try and motivate his team to come together. If nothing else, this all might bring his team together more as a unit and that might be the way it helps the team and not so much on the emotional level.

I daresay by the end of the season, the Hokies will have had enough of the remembrances and tributes and all. Anything that adds time to pre-game and half-time really throws an athlete off of his rhythm.

I agree completely. At some point, it no longer props you up but begings to wear you down. IMO it happened to the Yankees in the '01 WS.

They beat us in Blacksburg in 2000, and have been ducking LSU ever since, cancelling at least two games up to this point.
VT cancelled a scheduled game? Are you sure? Or are you saying that VT and LSU did not have a scheduled game between 2000 and 20007.

It was a home and home agreement. I think it was scheduled more than once with VT backing out on the return game. Don't quote me on the dates, but I think in 2003 or 2004, maybe both. I know 2005 after Katrina, LSU had to schedule Appalachian State, a Division I-AA school in 2005. I think we also scheduled Northern Illinois in 2003, I'd have to check the schedules.

Both of those, for which LSU received a fair amount of criticism for "padding the schedule with cupcakes," were scheduled due to VT backing out on the return game.

Frank Beamer is askeered of Tiger Stadium.

;) lol lol lol

In 2003 both schools agreed to reschedule to 2007. Here's the backstory.

So THIS is where all the Southern loungers are? I thought surely everyone was from somewhere in California! I live for college ball, and love the Clemson Tigers!

On that note:

I'm going to pretend you meant Clemson and not the Gamecocks. You wrote that a year ago, so perhaps you've changed your ways.

Who else is excited about football starting up again!!?

I'm ready! Once a Coug, always a Coug:

Washington State opens at Wisconsin this fall, which will surely be a very tough game. But hope springs eternal, and we do have one of the best QBs in the PAC-10, which is saying a lot. We're loaded at receiver, but the question is running back - we're thin there.

I can't wait for us to be picked to finish 9th or 10th in the PAC-10; for some strange reason, that usually just about guarantees us a bowl spot.

Hey, it's not easy to play in a conference where you face USC, UCLA, Arizona, Washington and Oregon every year!

Not to mention his excitement over Loyola's well known tradition of football excellence!
Loyola Academy has competed in the Chicago Catholic League, arguably the most competitive scholastic football league in America, for nearly three quarters of a century, without embarrassment. [huh]

Can't wait for the miserable Purdue early season form. Who's it to be this year? Bowling Green or Ball State . . .

I've never been more bored in my life at a sports game than at a Purdue football game. My word, what a terrible experience. The only thing more boring is the abject insistence of the students that "we are the best!!!".

The first game for my Iowa Hawkeyes is on Sept 1 against Northern Illinois. It should be fun because they are playing this game in Chicago at Soldier Field. Only four months to wait...
