Ever HALO at 40K? That's fun! Flyin' w/o metal drag.lol

Nope, never got a HALO quota. Don't think I ever went out at much more than 2500 or much less than 1000. -pop-, swing, swing, bam into the dirt.

Snow is nice to jump into, as is water. I remember chuckling at Benning when the instructors gave the little "75% of the earth is water, the rest is drop zone" speech. I'd been driving the safety boat for water jumps for a few years at that point.

My allegiance to Canoe U is strictly service-related. The closest I ever got was an appointment (also turned down, in my case foolishly) to the Coast Guard Academy. As you know, ring knockers can be annoying to deal with on a day-to-day basis.

The UF-Arkansas game was one of the most fun to watch of the year. :eusa_clap

As an SEC guy, I officially demand that UF be in the national championship game!

And your demand has been met.
Well done, Florida, make us proud in the "Tostitos' Bowl."

My Tigers will be here for the Sugar Bowl. Not what we wanted, however if we go to the Rose, then someone who blew out Notre Dame in the regular season would be rematched with them. That can't happen, and the Rose gets its desired Pac-10 vs. Big-10 game.

LSU with a STRONG showing could move up a spot to #3. Impressive for a 2-loss team, but both losses were close, they were losses to top 5 teams and both were on the road.

Rankings

LSU is ranked #4 in both AP/USA polls; trailing behind Florida
and Michigan-either Gators or Wolverines to meet Ohio State;
Southern Cal fell to #7 USA, #8 AP. IRISH further down.

bittersweet sugar bowl

Notre Dame is matched against LSU; conflicted feelings here,
like both teams...
Ohio State against Florida for national champs;
Michigan and USC in Rose Bowl.

The Heisman Trophy 2006

Ohio State Buckeye Troy Smith awarded Heisman.
Arkansas' Darren McFadden garnered second place;
Notre Dame's Brady Quinn came in at third.

I realize part of this was because Smith is on the #1 team in the land, which ABC and ESPN have been plumping all year. I don't know that Quinn deserved it earlier. I suspect we'll see what he's made of in the Sugar Bowl, the Tiger defensive line is really awesome with great linebacker play as well.

McFadden, I think, deserved it. He's just an amazing player, he's the best running back in the country, he has great hands, a tremendous stiff-arm with great strength.He throws a pretty ball, too, when they put him in that Wildcat formation like an old single wing.

I've always thuoght that the Heisman should be voted on after the season (bowl games) is completed.

A case could be made for post season voting; however, a player
candidate's collegiate tenure has been established by Junior/Senior
year end. And the Heisman college player can show a busted NFL flush,
so the award is-professionally speaking-not the last word.

Quinn's third place showing is also irrelevant to the NFL as at 6'4'' 210lbs
he meets the professional QB physical height and weight standards,
and with a 64-65% completion rate/6-7inceps he has the stats.
Smith is several inches shorter than Quinn, a fact that the Heisman
award cannot improve upon. Still, if Smith wraps his college career
with a national championship that is all the better. Likewise for Quinn,
a win against LSU would boost his reputation.

My point is that the Heisman is an award for the best college player, of a given season, and the season doesn't end until the final gun of the final game. Why choose the winner before the final gun?

It would put guys in earlier bowl games, or truly great players who don't get into a bowl, at a distinct disadvantage as the voting would be a month or more ex post facto

If you think Quinn is prototypical, wait until you see JaMarcus Russell.:eek:
