I have been asked to compile some 'classic'' if that is the correct word, sports questions for a Covid quiz nite in.
This is what I want as one question.
In all events, how many times has the USSR met the USA and who comes out the winner of most games?

Can you give me me both answer and site source.
Many thanks, Johnny T.

Time to bring up the famous 1980 “Miracle on Ice” when a young, inexperienced U.S. hockey team beat the four time World Champion USSR men’s hockey juggernaut.

Wow. Has it been 40 years? Talk about a major Cold War victory! I was a young man in the US Army at the time. Our housing complex went wild with joy when the American kids won that game. The popular false memory (I’m guilty myself) is that we beat the Russians in the final for the gold. It didn’t quite happen exactly like that, but that is how many Cold warriors of my age group remember it. The improbability of that win still makes me smile. This was in the deepest darkest days of the Cold War, when the most common nightmare was of nuclear war.

Thanks Lizzie, That makes it easier than Olympic titles or who has won the mosts, adding post soviet Russia etc. This is one of my guess/choice questions. Not as easy as people think to compile a quiz so everyone has a reasonable chance of getting a decent score.
My next topic will be history, I'm leaving Popular music and Cinema and TV to the wife :) Jay Tea.

I do remember the game, it was the most common answer to come up which is why I asked the Lounge my original question.
I am not a hockey player but like to follow the winter games rather than the Summer.
The subject of the rivalry between the USA and the Soviets, especially in Ice Hockey has always had some friction with it but how about Canada Vs USA :)

The answer does not matter...the real hockey games that mattered were between the USSR and Canada!

So how about the rivalry between Canada and the United States :)
That rivalry is relatively new found. For many years the US lagged in producing players in quantity and quality able to compete with Canada. That has shifted in later years so that the US is now competitive although many US players play in what is largely a Canadian based Major Junior Hockey.
