Cockpit used to be Avirex back in the day- it's an OK lower end repro, but overpriced. Check out the Vintage Leather Jacket board

For more than you ever want to know about A-2's, G-1's, B-3's, L2-A's, etc...
You can find those Avirex and Cockpit jackets on e-bay for pretty cheap. I picked this one up for $50 (though the price seems to be going up lately). Just make sure you get a goatskin A-2 with no handwarmer pockets. Avirex put out a lot of garbage over the years along with some decent jackets.

Hi Fishmeok and Matt,

Avirex (now Cockpit) also produces A-2s for the USAF, and has since 1998. In my opinion, these issued, goatskin A-2s are great jackets. They appear on e-bay from time to time. In fact, I just picked up another one this past Friday for $77.00. They're easy to spot. They have military tags and come from the factory with velcro patch holders attached.

Here's the first one I bought---still one of my most worn jackets.

I should clarify what I was trying to say there- over priced NEW in the cockpit catalog compared to the jackets available from the other repro makers. For what I paid for it on e-bay it's an awsome deal.

You do have to be careful though. I bought another Avirex A-2 that I thought was the same jacket because it had the same inside label and looked good in the e-bay pics. Turned out to be a badly made, thin cowhide mess. I found out later on VLJ that Avirex put the same labels on several different A-2 styles, not just the more authentic versions. Definately avoid anything that has a letter size instead of a number.
Cheers
Mark
