Just got an email trumpeting Cockpit USA's new webbie. Interesting, some high prices seems to me but they've a limited time offer of 15 to 30 percent off for previous customers. Big money for an ANJ though..

Here's the linky....

The opening line on the website said "Fashion Takes Flight", that was the first sign, might as well have said "prices have gone up!". The modern spec, 21st century A2 is listed at $420.00, I think I paid a about $240.00 for one just a few years ago, and that was at the Air force museum gift shop in Dayton. It's a great beater jacket for a couple hundred bucks, but I wouldn't pay $420 for it.

Avirex has always carried a few jackets that I like, but I've never been willing to pay their prices...even before their prices went up. I like their WEP, but Gibson and Barns sells one that looks as nice for only $158.00. And I really like Cockpit's Oil Driller jacket...but I don't like it enough to pay $730.00.

BTW, when I was still collecting current-issue A-2s, one could still buy an issued '98 Avirex for less than a hundred dollars on ebay. I still have two or three. I'm fairly sure this is the same jacket they're now selling for $420.00.

Definitely pricey for us in the UK at the current exchange rate.
Oh for the 2:1 rate again..
Believe me, I am happy, since I just placed an order for some after market parts to fit my new Triumph Thruxton! Now, if we could just get Australia and New Zealand back down to the 90s levels.

My late father once remarked, after seeing a news report of the rate at 1.75:1, that at one point during the war the rate was 5:1.

If only that coild be the case for a couple of weeks every Spring, before NYC gets unbearably hot... ;)

I just figured... d'oh we're talking exchange rates! I can't believe our British cousin's are complainin' cause the gouge ain't what it used to be!!!! To paraphrase Steely Dan:

"That trip I made to England's still eteched upon my mind"

I was 2:1 then and I paid dearly.
