Marty-

I am floored by that ensemble.

That is just class.

Where is your store, I might need to spend crazy 'Howell' money there...

Edit: Just saw Minneapolis in your profile...bummer. Web site? I at least must have those links.

Ok. Here's my idea of casual Friday.
Sport Coat: Olive plaid with a orange window, single breasted, bone buttons and a funky lining.
Trouser: Medium blue 120's wool faille weave, triple reverse pleats.
Dress Shirt: Blue twil weave 100's 2/ply cotton, classic collar and french cuffs.
Cuff Links: "PIn-up Girl" of course.
Vest: Yellow Royal Baby Alpaca.
Shoes: Allen Edmonds "Ramsey" brandy w/linen. Also with matching belt.
Hoisery: Pantherella light blue OTC with pattern.
Lid: Scala coconut with a madras band.
Driving Gloves: Italian made calf skin (for my pal Scotrace)
A silk pocket square and a fish fly in the lapel to finish the outfit. Now the only question is "What will you fill the Flask with?
Cheers,
Marty Mathis

Marty. Great looking stuff. If that is how you define understated, could you give an example of when you are not?

Well if you really want to know JGilbert:
Suit: 6 on 2 Double Breasted, Navy w/Pink stripe, 130's wool. High "V" cut on back of trouser.
Braces: Silk woven tapestry.
Shirt: Pink and Navy stripe 110's cotton broadcloth w/french cuffs.
Cuff Links: Hand painted Minnesota State Quarter (where's the snow?).
Tie: Navy w/Pink woven.
Shoes: Allen Edmonds Broadstreet.
Hat: Bosalino grade 20 Panama (sorry Bob & Art).
Finished up with a white w/Pink pocket square and a fish fly.
You're probably sorry you asked. ;)

Great looking cufflinks, you got there Marty:eusa_clap :eusa_clap :eusa_clap

Thanks Spitfire. You just have to love those pin-ups. Speaking of love, I love those cuff links of Dagwood's. Those are wicked. I haven't seen any like them. Good show.

Marty: I like the outfit, though the triple pleat is a bit curious. I've only seen it offered by tailors... is it "just one of those things" in the bespoke clothing business?

Thanks Griffer. I don't have a web site up YET. It's coming (I hope). The pin-up links are very cool. I've had a lot of great feedback about them. I think that I'll do a seperate posting for them.

AlanC, the Royal Baby Alpaca Vest is made by a company called Peru Unlimited. Good comapny and a great product. It feels like Cashmere. Thanks buddy.

Okay, that's a weird coincidence. The monogram on the shirt cuffs has my exact initials, I grew up in Minnesota, and my uncle ties flies professionally.

Do I have to quote, picture and all, to get your attention, Marty? :p

Sorry Jovan, those darn pesky customers were demanding of my time. I don't make many triple reverse pleats anymore. I like them though because I have very large thighs (luckly from athletics not from the coutch). They give me more room in the front Quad area. But I would say that we make 80% of our pleated pants in a Double Reverse. About 15% in Single Reverse and 5% in Triple Reverse.
The Barons right about the 1980's and Triple Reverse Pleats. Man we sold a ton of them. That extra fullness coordinated with the wider shoulder lines of the jackets. Speaking of the Baron, "Nasty Fabric" wow. I'm definitly going to wear that shirt when I visit you accross the pond. :p
Thanks,
Marty

I would say that you shouldn't try to dress "better" than your co-workers in the sense of greater formality. You don't need to be the only person wearing a coat and tie if nobody else ever wears them to work. It will just look odd and segregate you from everybody else.

What you should do, however, is dress "differently" than your co-workers. There is nothing inherently boring about khakis, shirt and shoes. For instance, if I had to wear something with that level of formality, I would go for:

Narrow-brim straw hat (which is wearable 8 months a year in Texas)
Brooks button-down shirt, or forward-point 1930s-style casual shirt
Classic plain-front straight-leg tan khaki pants
High quality leather belt with understated metal buckle
Colorful socks, try to coordinate with the shirt or some other element
Informal shoes (loafers, maybe even bluchers)

The key is combinations and thought. It is actually more difficult to "dress down" well than to "dress up" well.
