CHURCHILL HATS

Churchill Lord's Hat, I believe the model is a "Cromwell". Beautiful felt, smooth as the proverbial baby's behind. It has been my understanding that a homburg without a bound brim is considered a Lord's Hat. This is a new Sunday go to meetin' hat.

Usually with a pinch as well, the non bound brim and the pinches help to give it a more casual or less formal look than a Hommie.

Does anyone know what company supplied hats for Neiman Marcus in Dallas back in the day?

I found this beauty at an estate sale today. It’s a 7 1/4 black center sent beaver fedora with a Cavanagh Edge. The crown is 4 1/2. The brim is 2 1/8. The band is 4 1/4. There is a price tag showing $10.

This is a guess, but the very wide band makes me think it might be 1930s.

The liner shows just the Neiman Marcus Brand and the sweat band is stamped Niem Marcus Men’s Store Dallas.

I think I saw somewhere that Niemans sold Churchill hats but I wonder who produced their house label hats.

Niemans was one of America’s finest department stores back in the day and this hat oozes class. :)

Funny, I almost didn’t buy it. Black is my thing for tee shirts but I reallY not my color for hats. I carried it around for about a half hour before buying it. After I got it home I started to warm up to it. :)

Hey guy: that’s a very nice hat. Check behind the sweatband (carefully), under the liner for paper tags. That might give you some info. Churchill did make mates for NM. See today’s WHAYWT thread for a very fine Churchill 50.
Welcome to the lounge. Look forward to your endeavors.
And, thats a nice hat!
Be well. Bowen

Thanks for the compliment. I did check the labels. All I could find was the size, model code and price $10.

I’m a little confused by the price. Neimans is reknown for top quality luxury goods. The NM logo on the liner signals late 1950s-early1960s.

I would think a nice hat like this would cost more than $10 in those days at a place like Neimans.

I wonder how much it could fetch today?

Lol

Here is a Churchill "Town and Country" apparently made exclusively for the Chicago upperclass men's store Capper & Capper. Came in it's origional box. Very nice thin soft mid-grey felt. Unlined and with a very unique sweat. The backside of this fabric sweat is a thin leather!!! I imagine this was supposed to be perhaps a travel hat....maybe rollable? Anyway it has a really really nice soft hand to the felt {almost too soft}. Dimentions are: 5" crown, 2 inch brim with a felted (Cavanaugh) edge. I would guess this was late 50's early 60's with the style and $16.50 sales price along with the lack of a postal code in the addressing.

Churchill Dalworth "40" Open Road. Has a very soft finish/hand, almost sponge-like to touch. The color Palomino appears to be Silverbelly with Sage undertones. Very nice hat, I can't wait to wear it when the summer cools down.

Beautiful hat, HJ and quite the rarity as well. Can't wait to someday get my hands on it to compare it to my 25 and 50.
