Wilkommen, bienvenue, welcome!

The Egyptian influence is one of the things I love about the Art Deco movement - thank goodness for the timing of the discovery of Tutankhamen's tomb! Ankhesenamen's Nubian wig hairstyle would have looked very good on any self-respecting flapper.
***********

There are reports that Carter had discovered the Tomb earlier, covered it and then went on for further exploring. When the backers were going to pull the financing, Howard Carter "discovers" the Tomb.

I also like the Art Deco Egyptian connection and the art of Erte too. Still learning though!

Best wishes for a happy time at the Lounge.

I'm not usually much of a conspiracy theorist, John - but there may be something in those stories of Carter knowing where the tomb was some time before he sent the famous telegram summoning Carnarvon. Doubt we'll ever know. Certainly Carter, Carnarvon and Lady Evelyn did enter the burial chamber the day of the tomb's opening, then covered up the hole for the formal opening of the chamber.

Here's a sketch I did of one of the colossi of Akhenaten:

The "Lulu" or "Dutch Doll" bob was also know as the "Cleopatra" - I rather think it looks more like the Nubian wig, popular among male and female Egyptian nobility around the end of the 18th Dynasty and particularly identified with Amarna royalty. Here's Tutankhamen's wife, Ankhesenamen, sporting the look:

And here are canopic jars, possibly originally belonging to Akhenaten's secondary wife Kiya:

Nefertiti was also depicted quite often with this short, rather gamine style. While longer and fuller, there are elements in common with 20s bobs - no wonder they went wild for Tutankhamen's tomb.

[Philip Marlowe voice] Uh huh. You show up right after they open up the tombs of the Ancients' dentists and you expect us not to raise an eyebrow? [/Philip Marlowe voice]

Hotcha!

Sounds wild Koop. I note on Mr Poppleton's website that he has Paul Furniss performing with him, which alone vouches for the great sound his band must have. (For our friends abroad, Paul is an outstanding saxophonist who can really wail in the authentic style of Swing and early jazz).

I look forward to checking this cat out soon.
