Love these! It isn't Christmas if you don't have a paper crown on your head by the end of dinner. I brought these to the first Christmas with the in-laws, and it's now expected of me, every year. Not that I mind - it's fun to find new varieties! Last year, each cracker had a musical "instrument" in it, and the box contained music sheets for the "band".

That reminds me - gotta pick some up toot sweet!

This is also true for Thanksgiving. My boyfriend's family does it for Thanksgiving and Christmas. I never did it before him. It's a lot of fun times.

You can make your own with a few charms and such and toilet paper rolls too. Stuff with confetti, get the kids to cut out the crowns, etc.

Very easy to make.

Many party stores also carry them. They've been a Christmas staple for me for many years. It isn't Christmas without them.

They were quite the novelty to my american side of the family.

They are very popular in Australia and we had them every year. I have a photo of me when I was about three with one as tall as I was. Has anyone seen them at Target this year ?

I was a little confused by this thread, as here in the uk crackers are as ubiquitous as a tree, and more ubiquitous than turkey. They are sold in every supermarket - are they not so common in the us?

They are not in general a US tradition for Christmas.

Obviously there are exceptions, but its not a -standard- part of the holiday here.

That's funny. My husband calls our dogs "cracker" all the time. I'm surprised in myself for missing that. One of your dogs is from Alabama and is a cracker.
