Christmas by Myself...

My wife and daughter are flying out of Orlando on Christmas Eve (our anniversary) to go to Puerto Rico to see the wife's Grandmother, who is in bad shape. Looks like I get to do Christmas by myself this year, but a week with a little peace and quiet isn't too terrible of a concept.lol I can't go, because of work. I will still make my signature Coca-Cola Ham and some other goodies and watch some football on Christmas. We'll do our Christmas presents on Friday, instead.

Not too pathetic, is it?

Sounds like fun

It's not pathetic. I won't be going to Central Florida for Christmas after all this year so I will also be alone. Well, with three pugs. And a pile of film noirs. And a 4-bedroom house I have to get in order before it is inspected next month. I haven't decided on the menu yet.

BOSTON! LETS GO PATRIOTS!!!
Sounds good to me!
I'm Jewish, but a majority of my friends aren't, and my mom and dad usually travel during the holidays. So, I've spent many a Christmas day alone. My routine usually involved watching lots of DVD's and eating chinese food. I think all the Jewish people I know eat chinese food on holiday's like Easter and Christmas, when a lot of places aren't open for business.
Either way, I hope you have a very merry day. Take advantage of having the entire house under your own control! Eat what you like, watch what you like, do a jig in your boxers. Think of it as your day!!
And, if you get bored, you can always join your cyber friends here on the lounge. We're always here for you:)
Merry Christmas to you and your family, and a happy healthy new year:)

i hope your wife and daughter have a safe trip, your grandmother's health (?) improves, and you have an enjoyable holiday.

of curiosity, what is "Coca-Cola Ham"?

Not at all pathetic. I have had a few Christmas days and/or eves alone and find if I put on the tree lights, watch some good videos or holiday music on the public station, eat some good food, drink a nice glass of wine, even open a present or two from friends, I am not at all lonely.

I have friends who open their homes to other friends who may be alone or feeling lonely on a holiday. They invite friends over as early as they want to come as long as it is after 9 a.m. and keep their home open to people all Christmas day. Same for Christmas eve.

I also had a friend who, if she found herself lonely, would go volunteer someplace where the homeless were being fed, or visit and bring presents to a nursing home where there are patients who haven't received a present in a decade.

I once spent part of a Christmas day in a casino, thinking, boy this will be the dregs, but the folks who were there were cheery, the staff was dressed in Santa hats and super-friendly; I had a good dinner and enjoyed the day.

I am somewhat dreading Christmas with my relatives because my nieces and their spouses all over-indulge their kids, who open present after present after present, toss them over their shoulders like garbage and open more. I find this so disconcerning I would almost rather be alone.

Or, better still, find some kids from poor families, who get one present and cry with happiness.

Happy holidays to all of you whatever you celebrate.

Actually, it is her grandmother that is ailing. I've never even met her.

Coca Cola Ham is just a regular ham that I baste with a paste of Coke, mustard and brown sugar. The recipe is more complicated, but I have tweaked it to my liking. Just google "Coca Cola Basted Ham" to see the recipe. It is really good!

ah. i hope her grandmother's health improves, then.

soda and ham are not a combination i would consider of my own accord, but now i shall have to try it! i expect i'll make a mess of it, so i will try it on a very small ham...

have a pleasant day!

My grandmother used ginger ale and brown sugar on ham.:)

I was alone on the day as well. I had fun though--many calls catching up with friends, a fire in the fireplace, a little writing and watched Little Miss Sunshine. Sometimes it's nice to have some time alone.

Mine turned out okay. I made the requisite phone calls, cooked a great meal, and watched the Da Vinci Code movie (along with plenty of mindless comedy). I also worked on a project, which I will unveil here soon. No fire, though....it was in the 70's here for most of the day.

There are 55 people on my mom's side alone!

I would love to know what Christmas would be like alone, we go to the catherdal basement where my uncle preaches and have Christmas dinner down there. I rarely get a full conversation in with anyone cause we're all saying "Hi! How are you?" "I'm good!" and moving down the line.lol

I hope yours was nice, and that your mom-in-law is doing better.
