Of all the homes we have had we have never had a fireplace. Did not want one but now we do have one.
So recently I had a real chimney sweep check it out for the coming cold Winter.
He even wore a top hat.
Wondering if anyone on the FL is one or knows one. I learned a great deal about chimneys.

Definitely a vintage thing.

Dick Van Dyke: Who else?

Made sure he shook my hand as well. haha...

Lost art and pretty high demand. Something for someone to think about.

Why didn't you want a fireplace?

I had a chimmeny sweep come out and tell us our fireplace was too old to light wood or coal in and that we had to have a ventless gas log fire  unless we put a metal chute up the chimney for $300-$500. I was NOT happy.

Anyway, my mom once had a guy show up in the full garb when I was a kid and although she thought it was weird, I thought it was cool. I was really little though lol

I saw a truck driving down the highway yesterday advertising the owner as a chimney sweep. To my surprise, I didn't see any one-man-band equipment in the back.

The other day while dressed in my vintage workwear style, a co-worker told me that I looked like a chimney sweep! I got a chuckle out of that!

I always thought they would be way too messy. I love it now. Used it like crazy with 6 snows last Winter. Why I wanted it checked out.

Child chimney sweeps were banned by the 1870s, so if he does have one, I figure you're going for the antique Victorian look instead of 20th century vintage :)

It was only three or four times your bill.
The term Armpit of America tends to come to mind sometimes. :p

:eek:fftopic: lol lol lol

Why do you think I left? I love California's beauty, I love that they care about old buildings (for the most part) and I love love love the food, but the prices, most of the people... I can do without it! Move to Ohio! It's Cali before crotch baring actresses took over ;)

The problem is that my family has been here for five or six generations. I ain't leaving---I'll drive out the hippies who came here from back east in the 1960s and ruined it---first.
They are coming back so watch out. They will ruin your state too. :p;)

My great grandfather moved out there in the 1920s from Missouri, so I know what you mean about staying, but I couldn't take it anymore. Oh and they had better NOT come out here... yikes!

Many, many Californians are coming to Arkansas and Oklahoma. Even some of my family went out to California about the time of the Dust Bowl. Now they are coming back as they still have family or roots here. I think I meet more people from California in Arkansas then people from here.
Bringing businesses with them as the cost is so much cheaper here.
I left Texas and family has been there since 1858. It was not easy but the Texas I knew is no longer there. My family thinks I am nuts.
The way I look at it is way back they came from South Carolina to Texas and before South Carolina they came from Scotland/Ireland.

The difference is that those people came out here looking for opportunity through hard work. The hippies came out here looking for a handout and free love.:eusa_doh:

Gosh, I'm sorry. I know how that is. I grew up in Arcadia, CA and only a handful of people I know still live there. It's a crazy mess there now.

They're a comin'.:p

Actually I think it started here.... http://daytonology.blogspot.com/2007/12/where-hippies-are.html

At least they've been contained to one small town lol
