H&R Puffinstuff. This was entirely inspired by psychedelic drugs, I'm certain of it.

Another fine kids' show in the same style was The Friendly Giant, which we only got in the states in the mid/late sixties, but it ran in Canada for much longer.

The Friendly Giant wow! I've tried to remember the name of that show off and on for years. I can still see the opening with the doll house sized furniture in my mind's eye. It was on Channel 12, Philadelphia's PBS station back when it was NET.

It was the first (and only) public TV show I regularly watched as a kid, this was before Sesame Street (now I'm showing my age!) though as I remember it didn't last too long.

Thanks for the memory jogger LizzieMaine.

The Philadelphia PBS station put together a show called "Philly's Favorite Kids Show Hosts" a few years ago which covered (and included some rare clips) many of my favorites, Sally Starr, Gene London, Happy The Clown and Wee Willie Webber along with mentioning the horror show hosts, Roland (aka Zacherly) & Dr. Shock. Here's a link to the whole show: .

And who could ever forget the Lorenzo Stomp!

I saw Pee-Wee's Big Adventure (1985) seven times - AT THE THEATRE! I won the individual costume contest in high school that year ('ll never forget it; $10 and a box of chocolate covered almonds).

I know, I know......

When you watch the intro to Mr. Rogers. The oddly roofed red building in the opening credits used to sport the NET logo on it, which is why the roof on it is shaped that way.

In NY in the '60s, and maybe early '70s, there was a local TV host named Officer Joe Bolton. He hosted a Three Stooges show and the Dick Tracy cartoon show. He didn't do anything special, but I liked to watch him I guess because he seemed so safe and friendly.
