Changing Brim Trends in Fedoras

After looking through ebay, I noticed a trend in the fedoras.
The older fedoras, specifically from the '30s and '40s, had brims of up to 2 and 3/4 inches in size, whereas many of the later fedoras (from the 60s) had brims as small as 1.58 inches. I know this is a random thread, but just something I noted.

yes, there was a general trend towards stingier brims from the middle 50s onwards. But the stingies were certainly around earlier. I have a Stetson advert from 1931 offering "The Bowl; a hat for young men" with a 2" brim. And 2 3/4" is probably selling 30s-40s fedoras short. I have small sized vintage hats (6 7/8-7) with up to 3 1/8" brim.

So is that what a ''stringy brim'' fedora is? Just means a small brim?

In the 30's narrow brims and tall crowns were quite common. I would be alittle leary about trusting the ages (or history) of hats on ebay as most people really don't seem to have much idea on ebay, apparently. I doubt my Melton 10 was ever on a pimp or gangsters head.lol
