Actually i think although the hat is rather lovely, it doesn't quite suit her face shape, she has worn some great asymetric and brimmed hats in the past that have looked fab on her. I thought the rest of the outfit was ok, she's obviously showing off her best assets, the pins and being a bit high-fashion with the white dress and jacket, but all in all it's a bit boring.

I do feel for her though, as there will be the inevitable comparisons with Diana, who seemed to be able to do no wrong fashion-wise, but who also sometimes wore some howlers as far as i'm concerned. So perhaps Kate was playing it safe.

Nice to see her with her hair up for a change tho'.

Personally, I think both the hat AND the outfit dull and too 'old' for her. Also I would not say that the hat is particularly vintage looking to me.

Kate is a pretty girl but she doesn't really show herself in the best light in how she dresses. She is an extremely conservative dresser, always has been. I'd like to see her wearing outfits with more 'oomph' that really suit her, rather than just what she thinks is appropriate. However, I can understand that it must be really daunting to know millions of people are watching her every move in the fashion stakes!

And agreed, she should really put some weight back on. She always looked nice before, now she looks gaunt and that is never a good look on anyone.

She really should - I can understand losing weight before your wedding because you are stressed etc, but she was so much prettier before. I also think she looked very tired at Epsom! In this picture I thought she looked perfect:

I think she is absolutely beautiful and her smile is the cherry on the sundae. In my book she is one of the most beautiful women in the world. Tweed jacket, formal dress, jeans... makes no matter. Always absolutely stunning.

Since in this world we are all entitled to our opinions, I don't care if everybody says that she is too thin, in my eyes she has a perfect figure, face is not bad either ;) If that's not hot I don't know what is![huh]

I think she has a nice figure in these pictures, but I think she's lost weight since then. I think the other issue for some, is that she's built like a teenage girl and not a woman [huh]

That's just a matter opinion.

In my eyes she is perfect. :)

I think the real problem is women being criticised about their weight no matter whether they are thin or bigger. No matter what people in the public eye do, there's always someone complaining, calling them chubby or anorexic or not like "real women", and it's such a shame.
Her mom and sister are very slim as well, and weight fluctuations happen to a lot of people, especially in times of stress. I don't think anybody can help whether they look like a teenager. Even if she put on 20lbs, she' d probably never have bigger hips or breasts, especially since she is so athletic. To me she looks great either way.

Exactly! That's how I feel about it too! :eusa_clap

And why people are like that? Because sadly, it's human nature to be like that.

And as you rightly say, Drappa, it's such a shame :(

I think she's lovely. And the hat was lovely. And so is William! Why? Because they're young and she occasionally wears hats! Personally I like the hat. I don't think it will start a trend, although I remain hopeful, because a hat always makes me happy. And if anyone lives in Louisville, there's a boutique there that carries that hat designer. Treacy, Tracy- I forget.

I agree with you both, to me she is a beautiful girl, granted she has lost some weight, but she has been under the mother of all stress lately so it's to be expected. But as Drappa said she's in the public eye now, so everything she wears or how much she weighs will be subject to criticism, speculation and scrutiny, i do feel for her i really do.

Along the lines of your statement, I was just looking at the "1920s - Fashion with Fun, Whimsy and Chic" thread and saw this 1920's guide for the "ideal woman," right down to the size of her wrists and ankles, so it seems this criticism on women to be a certain size has been around for quite some time.:

that would explain all the "Swooning" that used to occur. They weren't fainting they were just unstable in a stiff breeze due to excessively small feet

Same as. My nana was actually a 2 and about the same height. Our local vintage clothes shop has quite a few dolly sized pairs of forties shoes that are gathering dust as noone but a passing fairy would be able to squeeze their feet into them.

Okay. Color me confused. HOW did they have such small feet? Even as rail thin teenager, at 5'4 I wore a 6 1/2 , so I don't think it's a size/weight issue. And didn't everyone walk more back then? Wouldn't that make your foot a little bit bigger? I can understand some size difference, but that's just too much.

I'm a bit worried what the measurements would be like on today's stars. I doubt they would be realistic at all. The weight would still be 118 or less and the height would be 5'8" or taller. :( They basically won't sign a girl as a model if she isn't at least 5'8" and under 110 pounds.

But really, I've never met anybody who had a foot size smaller than a 4. Even my grandmother, who was 5' had a size five foot.
