Got my new Catalina straw today. I really like this hat!!! Very tight weave and in very nice shape. The sweat is a little dry, but some Lexol should take care of that. 2 1/4" brim with a 4 3/4" crown. I don't know the age of the hat, but there is a old Sears Roebuck and Co. price label. I think it shows the price as $3.94 It needs a little shaping, but I think it will do just fine. Now I waiting for warm weather.:D

'Scuse my antipodean ignorance squire but I have never heard of this straw. Is it a type of Filipino straw a la Para/Balibuntal - made in the US of A?

Cookie, I don't know anything about it either, other than it was sold by Sears. [huh] The price sticker is visable in the 3rd picture.
If anyone knows anything about these, I would love to know.

Amish Yard hats

Anyone think that at that price and with that quality they could be turned into something more interesting with a good blocking? Please advise all summer hat maniacs.

A friend of mine bought a similar hat at a store called
Vintage Silhouettes in Crockett, CA (now closed ;) ). I seem
to recall it was of Italian manufacture. The fiber was
pretty flexible. Seemed like it might have been machine woven?
Never seen another like it till now.

Next time I see his hat, I'll have a look at it for ya.
