Ha ha! I like how a couple of those men are wearing suits with shorts, and keep the tall stockings to go with it. lol

Those men are the Pit Bosses, not customers. That was their
uniform. The dealers are also wearing shorts but no jacket.
Being Vegas it was probably 95 degrees or better.

I had the misfortune to work in a big casino recently: anyone in a tux would have had rocks thrown at them by the barefoot troglodytes at the tables or had it vomited on by the teenagers lying in the gutter in their own urine at the entrance...Casino Royale it WEREN'T....then again maybe it was the modern equivalent thereof if one remembers the opening lines of the book!

I had heard that there were some people asked to remove large brimmed hats at some table games because of the problems it presented to the security cameras. But I can't confirm it. If you go to Las Vegas and you wish to be dressed up it tends to be better received at the Higher end and higher class Casinos. You can wear a suit and tie to the Bellagio, the Venitian, and the Wynn with out feeling very out of place, there are others that it works well too. There is a tier or level of the casino that is the highest end and at the higher end where it works better. Travel Guide books on Las Vegas often have ratings that can help sort out the high end ones form the low end ones and the grind joints.

When I went to the AAPEX and SEMA shows I would dress for the big dinner the company had.

Keep in mind, too, that the Royal Nevada wasn't one of the big, well-known casino/hotels. Gaming by the pool was probably one of their gimmicks, AND it would save them some money in not having a built structure for at least part of their clientele. Also, it's a pretty small gaming area. One craps table, one roulette table and what is probably a blackjack table. Three tables, five staffers on a patio area that could be converted to lounge chairs or dining tables at the drop of a hat...

Not sure which one had it first but there was a casino that had invented the idea of swim up black jack tables.

As of 2008 you could play black jack and not leave the pool at Tropicana, Hard Rock, Mandalay Bay, Palms, Red Rock, Rio and Wynn.

I'm a Blackjack dealer at a major casino on weekends, and I can tell you there is no real "code" as it applies to guests. Wear your fedora and you probably won't be bothered. If the "eye in the sky" has an issue, they'll let you know, but usually we bend over backwards to keep guests happy.

I think casino etiquette is: 1. Don't spit on the dice, 2. don't walk in the pit (behind tables).
Las Vegas in December is LOADED with cowboy hats due to the National Finals Rodeo and they are all 4 inch brim or more and nobody cares. Apparently the cameras are plentiful and hat brims pose no problem.
