Casino Etiquette

Hi folks,

I am heading to Las Vegas next week and am interested in etiquette while wearing a fedora to the casino. I will primarily be at the tables playing blackjack and poker. Should I wear the hat at the table?

Cheers,
Derek.

I wore mine at the tables and saw several others who were wearing theirs if that helps.

It depends on what type of joint you're frequenting. ;)

I'm interested in this question too as I turn 18 in a few months and would like to go to a casino (I've always taken an interest in how to lower the house edge at casino games).

When does one go to a casino in black tie (like James Bond does in nearly all of the films) and what's the etiquette for hats then, assuming one is wearing the correct hat?

When you're James Bond, in a film.

Once, all you needed was money in your pocket. Now one casino-hotel wants you to wear nice pants, too.

Tropicana Casino and Resort announced Monday that it is imposing a dress code for late-night visitors to its new retail and entertainment center.

Effective immediately, anyone who visits The Quarter after 11 p.m. on weekends or holidays may not wear baggy jeans, work boots or work shoes, T-shirts, "inappropriate athletic gear" or other clothing Tropicana considers improper.

"Our guests arrive fashionably dressed, and we want to maintain that level of sophistication," said Dennis Gomes, ..

Well, I've only been to Vegas once but you were far more likely to see middle aged women in Tweety Bird t-shirts at the tables than suave men in dinner jackets. Or ties. Or shirts with collars.

Unless you run in some really high class circles, even a suit would look odd in most American casinos.

I'll just have to hope that English casinos have a dress code then as I would like to go to a casino where everyone at least attempts to dress well.

I would agree with what Geesie said about American casinos. You really would not expect James Bond type dresses here.

But then, since you're in Europe, you might as well just go to where they film the movies if you like that sort of atmosphere:

Ha ha! I like how a couple of those men are wearing suits with shorts, and keep the tall stockings to go with it.
Thom Browne and his high-water pants are conservative by comparison. lol

I definitely will go there one day. But when my birthday comes in April I won't be able to go quite that far so I'll have to settle for a casino in Nottingham, but fortunately some of these do appear to be quite smart with nice restaurants in them too.

WELCOME TO LAS VEGAS

;) Wear your hat and have a great time. It is not easy to over or under dress here. I wear a Tux in the evening when the desire strikes. Las Vegas is pretty informal these days, so wear what suits you. Have fun, that's what we are all about here.

As would be proper with Bermuda shorts by the pool . . . ahh, those were the days. And, perhaps its better that they've passed. Some things just don't work well in any era.
