I do want to see the original cut of the centaurs in the forrest. In the last release, there were a few minutes cut out for PC reasons.

LD

The quality is lousy, and the scenes are still a little trim, but for anyone who hasn't seen them, here's a trifecta:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_AKwCMmvI_U&search=slavery
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FzT5-PD5S7s&search=slavery
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bek8ECIgkMc&search=Fantasia banned

There is a mythology that the "cut sequences" no longer exist, but it's just that.

Thanks for that.
I didnt know she was a little girl, from the pics I have seen, I thought she was older.

There is also a scene at the begining of the entire centaur hammering shoes like an iron smith. That is a hard to find sequence too, but not NEARLY as bad a Sunflower.

Thanks,

LD

Hi LD

I've seen a variety of "cels" and "sketches" for sale, some of which do appear to feature an older version. I also did a match of any that I've grabbed the image of and tried to compare to the existing clips; I have come to the conclusion that there must be one more scene (or one of these ones being longer). I've seen the centaur one, and no match either. So, there is one missing (featuring a third female) or there is an unanimated segment. The trick now is to find out which!

Little Lulu

I've noticed that Little Lulu is back. The comic books have been re-released and today I saw a large figure of her for sale. Funny, she's got the fewest scenes in the re-released ($1) DVDs. I wonder where this is coming from. Betty Boop items have always been available, so I'm not shocked to see those anymore. Has anyone else noticed vintage cartoon items?

bugs at the bowl july 7th.

the bowl has a web site, lots of stuff. the fireworks on the 4th is awesome.

Well, I saw it last night and it was AWESOME -- thanks for the tip! As someone pointed out earlier in the thread, it was really hard not to sing along or quote the lines. They even snuck in a couple I hadn't seen before, believe it or not.

If it comes to your town, see this show!!

Some friends and I was at our local pizza parlor one night and the subject of cartoons we use to watch as kids came up. We stayed up for hours thinking of cartoon shows, the characters, when they were first broadcast, famous sayings, etc., it was so addicting to a point that the other tables around us started to get involved as well...we all had a good time. Although it could have been the beer talking! So...being a rookie at this...I thought I would put this thread up and see what happens.

Scooby Do was my favourite - before they ruined it with Scappy. There was one show that was set underwater that I liked - can't remember what it was called . Would have been early 1970s...

My all time favorites are the 1940s Warner Brothers cartoons - Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Porky Pig, Foghorn Leghorn, Road Runner, etc.

The Flintstones and Jetsons were favorites, as well. I also watched Speed Racer and Gigantor, a weird little cartoon called Big World, Little Atom, and Hanna Barbera shows - Huckleberry Hound, Quick Draw McGraw, and Magilla Gorilla. I also loved Tom and Jerry.

There were also Saturday morning cartoons that I never missed - Rocky and Bullwinkle, Tennessee Tuxedo, Go Go Gophers.

My brother watched some other stuff. He liked Scooby Do, which I never quite understood. There was also a cartoon called Winky Dink, where you were supposed to draw on the TV screen after putting some sort of clear plastic covering on the TV screen. That ended quickly, right after my brother (younger) forgot the plastic.

I'm sure there were others, but these came to mind rather quickly.

I have VERY fond memories of watching...

Speedy Gonzales!
Bugs Bunny
Tweety & Sylvester + Grandma.

The "Tom & Jerry" cartoon shorts of the 1940s-1950s.

The "Merrie Melodies" shorts of the 1930s and 40s with Mickey and the Gang.

I loved all these things. I had them on VHS and I would watch them all the time as a child. Even now I look for them on YouTube and they're still as hilarious as they ever were.

The mark of good comedy is whether it's still funny 50 years later. That was some GOOD comedy.

Well, there are of course the classics of Bugs (What's Opera Doc and The Rabbit of Seville spring to mind). Along with the other classic cartoons, they gave us a great exposure to classical music.
However, the cartoon which was really emblematic of my time as a geeky child in the 90s would be The Magic Schoolbus. Along with Wishbone and Bill Nye the Science Guy, these were really the shows I loved to watch and now lament that kids these days don't have them.

I wonder if there is ever a point where people are thinking, "kids these days, they have such better cartoons (or some other cultural thing) than we did when I was little." I definitely think that about McDonald's playplaces. When I was little those were just a ballpit and maybe a slide or two. Since then they have become labyrinths.

My all-time favorite was Jonny Quest. Getting to go to far-off exotic places outsmarting bad guys and the occassional monster. I wanted to be Race Bannon when I grew up.

I haven't seen the show for decades but a couple of episodes stand out - there was one with pterydactals (sp.) in the jungle and another with an invisible energy blob. Very exciting stuff for a young kid.

Thanks for making me dredge up some very happy memories!

I agree John, that Johnny Quest was one of my favorites too!...Many people forget (now I'm going to date myself) that the Flintstones, Jetsons, Johnny Quest and Rocky and Bullwinkle shows were orginally aired during "prime time", they were family T.V. programs...40 years before the "Simpsons"! I can still remember going to the drive-in movies with my folks, my sister and some of our friends... load up the car with popcorn and snacks and follow the line of cars to the to the drive-in... a dollar a car load... and watching opening cartoons before the feature movie. Cartoons like Mr. Magoo, Bugs Bunny, Tom and Jerry...boy does that bring back happy memories of summers past!

The theatre where my uncle was projectionist when I was a kid ran Walter Lantz cartoons before every feature, whether they suited the feature or not. (Seeing a Chilly Willy cartoon before something like "The Pawnbroker" must've been very unsettling to the audience.) Unfortunately, these were the newer cartoons, where Woody Woodpecker was a suburbanite worried about neighbors borrowing his lawn mower, and the fun quotient was not especially high.

They also showed Disney matinees on Saturdays on a fairly regular basis, and these were always accompanied by a classic Disney short. I have very vivid memories of seeing "The Skeleton Dance" at one of these shows, and having nightmares about it for weeks afterward.

No one has mentioned Popeye.

Then there were the early B&W cartoons we used to watch that were played on Saturday AM. Like this one, featuring Bosco, Warner Brothers first cartoon character.
