In her defence (or her stylists...) She does occasionally pick up some really nice vintage pieces.
In the last season she had a lovely 20s opera coat and some amazing shoes.
But yeah....I wore slogan t-shirts in the 80s and they are Uggggggglllll-eeeeeeeeee!lol

I think I get eye-cancer!!!! lol

Oh my, I can totally understand and respect people that fancy another fashion than I do, but that outfit is lacking any feeling of colour. I mean if the stockings would at least be black it still wasn´t my taste, but it would be more wearable and tolerable to look at.

The other day, Manolo the Shoeblogger said that he didn't mind that the Carrie Bradshaw was the older bride, but he thinks she has exercised herself into a haggard state. I know the side lighting isn't flattering, but the whole look just doesn't suit a 40ish woman. :(

Well, i think we need all need to bear in mind that those shots are taken from production of the new film version of Sex and the City, and so reflective of Carrie Bradshaw's style rather than SJP's. ;) The specualtion in the press over here was that the outfit was for a flashback sequence in the film.

SATC was a show I could never warm to. Aside from the "What the hell is she wearing??" incredulity, I really didn't like the image of womanhood it pushed as desirable. Not that I'm in any way opposed to female equality and the emancipation of women - quite the contrary. I just feel it a dreaful shame when some women seek to gain equality by sinking to men's level.

As to the matter of its ending, I'm still not sure whether it was a total sell out for all of them to settle down with men and live happily ever after, or a deliberately irony.

Too thin. Much too thin.

I agree. SJP was once known for having one of the best bodies in Hollywood: muscular and healthy. Now she looks like a twig, just like most other modern starlets in Hollywood. It also makes her angular features even more protruding, which I don't think is a plus.

As for the outfit, stylist or no, she could have put her foot down on that if she really wanted to. Carrie Bradshaw is still a character in her 40's, and that outfit is something that a 40 year old woman with any sense of style wouldn't be caught dead in. That's a Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen outfit, which they can get away with because they're teenagers, even if it is f-ugly.

Do like her new hair color though and the straightness of it. Think it's very pretty.

I saw this show exactly once, and I had exactly the same reaction. If this is what "modern" is like, then I'm glad I ain't.

And don't even get me started on the fashion aspects. I'm trying very hard to be nice these days.

I don't like all the outfits they have Carrie in (and she is too thin right now), but what I do admire about Carrie/ SJP is that at least she loves clothes and is adventurous.

We opine all the time on these boards about the lack of variety in the jeans and t-shirts world, and the people who make fun of us for being different, but that's what she is, too - different. Some outfits are trainwrecks, but at least she's not a horrid mall carbon copy looking schlubby all the time (as in too casual schlubby.) She makes actual effort, and isn't that part of what we admire about the fashion denizens of the past?

Some of her stuff on that show is divine - her Paris outfits in the last few episodes? They were to die for! I hope she eats a lasagna, and I hope she keeps up the kooky work.

Well, when I first saw that pic I was aghast that she was single-handedly trying to bring back the Frankie Goes to Hollywood t-shirt.

...then I saw a FGtH tee in Target this week, and now I know the fashion gods have truly abandoned us.

It isn't THAT bad. As lovers of fashion and clothes, no matter the decade, you at least have to respect her (or her character's) love of clothes, styles, mixing and matching. Sometimes, clothes aren't about how they look together and more about how you feel in them. I often wear "fun" outfits, may not be everyone's cup of tea but I like them. How many women my age walk around in full girdle, stockings and crinoline?

Hey, I like slogan shirts. They might not be long enough to wear as mini dressess and I don't pair them with checkered thigh highs (yeah they aren't really checkered, but I can spell that... lol). But they get the point across at work...."listen to me, not the voices in your head", "obey me, you'll be happy" (that one is a Disney tee with Grumpy Dwarf). Then there's one I wore only twice, because I get hit/pushed every time I do. "Only a complete loser would stand here and read someone elses t-shirt". Yeah, I'm not that into abuse. lol

The first thing I saw her in was LA Story, with Steve Martin. A very underrated film, in my book, some great one-liners. ("Your breasts feel strange." "That's because they're real." / "Some of these houses are almost twenty years old!" etc). She was very pretty then, though I agree she has alas fallen prey to the same over-thinness that most of Hollywood / the entertainment media in general does nowadays. (Can you imagine Marylin or Bettie trying to make it today? eep).

Here's a point I meant to make and obviously forgot: the newspapers I saw the pictures in over here were speculating that this could have been part of a flashback sequence to her eighties youth, hence the slogan tee (and different hair). Or I guess it could be revivalism, a costume for a theme club (seems to be Carrie Bradshaw is the sort of character would love an 80s theme night - one of those people who, quite unlike myself, doesn't think the 80s were bad enough the first time around), or soem sort of midlife crisis themed storyline....? Will Carrie turn 40 and freak out? (Or was she meant to be in her 40s already - I can't remember?).

Heh, fair enough point.

Those have been back forever over here. Back around 2000, it was all Motorhead t shirts, then there were the Ramones shirts... all being worn by fifteen year old girls who were paying £30 (well, the parents were...) a pop for a T shirt for some band the vast majority of them had never heard of. A lot of them I doubt realised it was a band and not a designer label... The last year or two, the 80s style slogan tee has come back. The number of "Frankie says Relax" tees I've seen on young girls..... I think they're more popular in this revival than they ever actually were first time around.

I agree with you completely. I was basically forced to watch the first several seasons by my last ex, and the show literally made me feel depressed. The other week I was having breakfast with a friend (a staunch feminist) and was surprised, and pleased, to hear her object to the show as well. I doubt I'll ever truly understand the appeal of that show.
