I'll dance occasionally- I get a little self concious with swing, but I LOVE waltzing- not that I know any more than the basic :D

Took ballroom dancing in college (foxtrot / swing / waltz / chacha basics), loved it, got voted "favorite to dance with" by peers on last day  , haven't danced since.

Definitely want to get more into swing if I can only find time, hookup with others via http://www.meetup.com/ , etc - not a big swing scene here.

I think I remember you. :D Just kidding.

But once on a cruise a guy was asked to leave the dance lesson (I'm thinking it's because he was groping his partners, though.)

My wife and I used to dance quite regularly pre-Baby. We went to some 'Savoy' lindy hop lessons for a while, but it was one of those deals where you have to swap dance partners during the course of the lesson, and she quickly tired of all the sleazy mugs who paid a little too much attention to parts of her anatomy south of her chin, so we canned that one.

We can do all that six-step jive just fine, but I'd still like to glom a good instructional DVD one day, to get that ol'-style jitterbug happening. I wish my Dad was still alive, he used to teach it back in the 40's, and I'm yet to see anyone here dance with the style and verve he had.

I swing dance two nights a week, usually, and currently I'm taking a classes in jazz movement and ballet. I practice two or three days a week at home. You can take class after class, but you'll never get better unless you practice.

One of the nights that I dance, there are hardly ever enough partners, so I do a lot of solo jazz dancing. Yes, I feel conspicuous, but I got really tired of waiting for someone to ask me to dance or running down partners.

I've always wanted to learn to dance properly -- I can box-step around the floor, but that's about it. That doesn't stop me from executing impressive fake-20s-Broadway-chorus steps in the privacy of the projection room during musicals...

A few years back I had the wonderful opportunity to teach Ballroom professionally for two years. Looking back it was one of the most rewarding experiences - not because of my opportunity to dance daily, but to help others learn, grow, and become more comfortable on the dance floor.

Unfortunately I have had fewer chances to dance with my current career. I cherish the opportunities to get out on the floor and dance.

I never go anywhere like an organised dance. Mine is confined to the living room, hall, kitchen etc, and I dance there to anything and everything in a really eclectic mix of styles. And, we've got wood floors, so I can even pretend to tap dance - and I mean, pretend! I do love the ballroom stuff though, and if I put a film on (no TV, just a screen) and it's Cole Porter or a fantastic 40s score, well, I don't see much of the film! Sadly, Husband doesn't dance. Dance free zone as BK sums it up. But on the bright side, my partner can be anybody at all. At the moment I'm working with George Clooney - Nobody wears a suit like him since Cary Grant. :D

There's a fairly large swing dance scene here in DC. We're fortunate to have a number of instructors who teach East Coast, West Coast, Hollywood, and traditional Jitterbug styles.

Does anyone watch the old Hollywood musicals and Charleston in their living room? Hey, it builds confidence to approach the dance floor ;)
