Canadian 'Men's wear review' 1911 to 1922

Wow! I just came across this on archive.org. This seems to be a yearly review meant for people in the clothing business. Every edition is full of comments on what's new and popular in suits, shirts, collars, neckwear, hats etc. But not just that, they're also full of illustrations, advertisements and photographs! Gives a great overview of all the developments of the 1910s. And a look into failed experiments as well.

Some things that caught my eye:

4 piece cap with a straw brim

Norfolk shawl collar cardigan!

Nice Palm Beach summer suit

Great illustration! (Leyendecker?)

I imagine this means detachable collars in different colours. No surprise that didn't catch on...

Thank you! I've been reading through the 1911 review. Take a look at this interesting necktie. There are many thin ties in that catalogue, but I have never seen anything like this before. It's certainly an oddity.

Here's a page I like. The one in the middle reminds me of the #1 Brooks Brothers' Repp Tie, with that pattern of stripes. I like the horizontal and vertical striped ties, as well.

I just went through the 1911 one as well, and indeed, it is full of thin ties! The Hobble one looks rather silly to me.. Just like this shirt with matching tie:

This is a bow tie you attach the same way as a collar:

Yes, the Hobble tie looks very strange, but I'd only ever wear it because of that. It's a novelty tie, to me.

It's not the best look, but I wouldn't mind wearing one of those shirts with a matching tie, on a rare occasion. It doesn't look very bad to me. That's a narrow collar, though!
