Can you wear your hat in YOUR vehicle?

No problems at all in my 50 Plymouth SD, though MOPAR used to brag in their advertisements of the day (48 - 52 or so) that they were the only car still made with plenty of head room for men and women wearing hats.;)

Aahhhhhhhhhhh, MoPar! Yes, as you all know I drive one of them too. Slightly older (1946 P-15) I enjoy the luxury of driving with out my hat hitting the headliner. I used to have to deal with my hat touching the headliner before I took on the responsibility of driving a 60 year old car daily. I tell ya, it’s been so nice not to have the seat way back and lowered to accommodate my tall self and my tall crown hats.

It’s all about the head room!

I can wear my fairly low crowned Stetson Chathams in my '92 Ranger, but I sometimes hit the hat on the door frame getting in and out. No problem in the '82 Mercedes 300SD. The Germans make cars for tall guys.

Oh, and that quote wasn't Walter P. Chrysler, it was K. T. Keller, who became chairman of Chrysler in 1950. Great quote, though, and I wish his vision had prevailed. If I had more space and a little more money, I'd love a '38 Plymouth Coupe, Philip Marlowe/Walter Neff style. :)

In his book, Hatless Jack, author Neil Steinberg offers an additional quote from Chrysler President KT Keller on car headroom: "A car shouldn't knock a man's eyes out or his hat off." But the market disagreed. Americans bought lower and sleeker cars, Chrysler's boxier styling suffered by comparison, and Keller was ousted by 1950.

As production cars lost their hat-accommodating headroom, Britain's Royal family asked Rolls Royce to design a State Limousine that would allow the Duke of Edinburgh to wear a tophat. Rolls Royce responded with a raised roof version of the Phantom VI - not a particularly handsome car to my eye - but it fulfilled its mission - plenty of headroom.

I'm about 5'9", drive a 1983 280ZX and there's room to wear a Whippet. The headrest isn't an issue unless I want to lean my head back on it, but it's not really designed to do that while driving anyway.

My winter car is a 1999 Blazer, and there's plenty of room in there.

My wife drives a 1993 Audi 90 Quattro - the hat room is adequate but snug.

At 5'1" I could probably wear one of these

in a Miata should the desire strike me, which it has not.

Fedora in a Chevy is so much classier.

I think the Germans say "Mann mit Hut - f?§hrt nicht gut!" (Man with a hat - doesn't drive well." Probably spread at a time when elderly men were the only people who still wore hats.
