Been wanting this jacket for a while, but i'm short and they don't have shorter lengths

i found a guy to make one and he got some sheepskin, but i want to know if it's the same color and it is hard to tell

i would really appreciate pictures and some description of the colors

Not the same. The sheepskin your guy has has curly fur. The pics shown on Schott website is flat ironed fur.
Generally speaking I'd go with flat iron fur over curly fur, but there are some exceptions (merino fleece for example). If you want to make your flat iron fur curly, just add water, but it's very hard to make curly fur flat.

when you go close, is the color a solid bronze brown or are there flecks of black/darker colors? to your eye, does it look like the images posted? I added some more

The Schott doesn't look like it has a mottling paint spray like the one your guy has. I don't think they are the same both finish wise or fur wise.

One thing to keep in mind is that the brown side is the paint side and is the flesh side, not the grain side. The shearling jackets are technically painted rough outs with the fur on inside grain side. The way I would judge the painted finish is to have a close up smell. Ask your guy is the leather Prop 65 label or can it be sold in California without the prop 65 label. You want the latter.

Getting high quality shearling pelt is the most important part in these Shearling jackets imo, it's basically all material.

Thanks for the insight but I am a little bit confused. He said it was double faced sheepskin but it feels quite rough on the leather. I did ask today if it was going to be treated or tanned or something to make it soft but he said no.

Making a jacket off of pictures always goes badly, be forewarned.

Plenty of "deals" turned disasters here from that method.

The Schott you posted is “double face” shearling, meaning there’s a layer of paint covering the suede side to make it look like grain leather, but it’s just a layer of paint on top of suede, or the rough out or flesh side of the grain leather.

Without the paint layer, I guess it could be called single face, and would look like this:

The two main issues here are,
1) the quality of the paint used. If it’s lower quality paint, it smells. And it won’t pass the low VOC standard, and in order for it to be sold in California, it needs to have a Prop 65 warning sticker label on the product.
A lot of sales now a days are direct from source country, but not all country has the same low VOC paint standards as North America.
Smelly paint will lead to bad health. Not worth it. Most material made in North America will not have this issue as high quality paint is readily available, and inexpensive, but we cannot assume the same for everywhere else in the world.
2) the quality of the fur, in terms of density or how much balding. This is why I suggest to look for straight ironed fur, it’s easier to tell if there are bald spots. Curly furs hides the bald spots.
Find out where your guy is getting his shearling, what tannery. Current quality standards are either the veg tan stuff from Spain‘s Colomer tannery, or the various chrome tan stuff from the US tanneries. I would also trust UK tannery furs, but I don’t think they’re producing anymore. There are very few places producing high quality “double faced” shearling.
Also, high quality shearling will have more weight to them, because the fur is denser, even when they’re trimmed short, the dense pelt will still feel like its got a good weight, but very soft and wearable.

I think if you need custom sizing, and if want high quality fur, Aero and SB are your two only options. But Aero don’t offer “civilian” styles like the Schott, so you’re stuck with B6 or D1 styles. You could also try Johnson, but their prices on Shearling might be higher than Aero / SB, but you can get any style and custom changes you want.

Or maybe look for lightly used Schott and get it shortened by their repair service. Good pelts can last a long time, a good cleaning they look like new again. The same can be said for used Aeros, SB, LW…etc, and have a fur specialist do the cleaning and shortening. Used Shearlings can be found for a lot less and that some of that gap can go towards alteration and professional cleaning.

2. The actual leather is rough. Almost like sandpaper. I asked why and he said it was normal and would soften with time but he had stock skins that were buttery smooth and soft so I do not know what to make of it. I do not know if it's double faced but I can Ask

3. Can. Schott be shortened 1-2 inches? I thought the waist buckle would be impossible to change

The single post important thing in a garment is the patterning; if the pattern is not good, the jacket will be terrible no matter how much money you pour into it.

Before those are answered, we're putting the cart before the horse and perhaps setting you up for failure.

i'm not explaining this properly, his current stock is not the same as he normal stock, and he can get the sheepskin in the photos in a larger amount to make the coat

i would love to find out who schott gets their leather and sheepskin from and just get it from their supplier if i could

Makes sense, there are fur tanners in Ontario.

I would think it can be shortened. The body not so much because the pockets (looks 1" maximum), but the sleeve can be up to 2" just looking at the photos.

Is your guy Canadian local maker? how much does he want for a shearling jacket build?

yes, he said normally 2000 but because he quoted me 1500, that's what he said he'll do

honestly i would love to find schott's supplier and go straight to them for the skins

I'm sorry but $1500 CAD is a lot of money!

Instead of this gambling game, why not just get an Aero B-6 to suit your height, for considerably less money. The Schott B-3 (which is a great civi sheepskin) is basically a B-6 anyway.
