Is there anything you can't do VB? And you have a husband? I'm sure this wasn't the only thing you were researching. Does he ever see you? I, like the others, am in awe of your amazing talents and perseverence. Do you do research for a living? I assume your house is a (slightly) scaled down version of the Library of Congress, since I've seen alot of your postings in book threads. The heck with the Dr, someone should do a film about you! I nominate you as most fascinating FL person of 2008.

Well, to say you made my day and that I am flabbergasted is a complete understatement! Thank you for the very kind words! I'm sure my husband can come up with a few things I don't do well very quickly ;). As for myself, I have been told in other threads I talk about myself too much, so I will thank you profusely and withdraw from commenting further. I am now limiting my comments to constructive information and compliments, the exception being my Vintage Betty's Book of the Week thread.

Just got a packet of information about our mystery lady, Dr. Marie Equi, courtesy of our friends at the Oregon Historical Society.

If you already thought she was amazing, wait till you read the additional information I have in hand and the extra photos I received! There is ANOTHER photo of her wearing the same Chinese coat!!!

Their paperwork states I have to ask permission to reproduce, so I will be contacting our friends at the Oregon Historical Society to make sure I am allowed to post it to this discussion board in respect of their printed requirements.

As a side note, if you are enjoying this thread and the content, maybe you want to make a small donation to their Historical Society for all their help?

Just a thought.

Respectfully ~

More information about our favorite mystery woman

The Oregon Historical Society has officially given me permission to reproduce this information for The Fedora Lounge discussion board.

In order to read the information more easily, I have cut up the scanned images. Warbaby, I will reproduce and send to you in entirety for your files.

Information on Dr. Marie Equi...posted for your consideration...

The detail that is not listed here is similar San Francisco Earthquake information; it was reported in the local newspaper and can be found on line if you want to go Google the correct keywords. I didn't try and find the original image of the newspaper, but it was front page or headline news that Dr. Equi helped out the San Francisco earthquake survivors, so the information should be easily found; I found a couple articles, if my memory serves me correctly.

If it isn't obvious by now, this remarkable woman also had other newspaper references in helping victims of natural disasters in her town and around the US.

Truly, a great woman to study and be remembered.

Respectfully submitted,

Vintage Betty

should we make the donation in your name "VintageBetty" or in Dr Equi's?

If you are serious and so kind as to make a donation, please make it in honor of the great volunteers and staff of the Oregon Historical Society.

Thanks for asking!

Thanks indeed - you outdid yourself!:eusa_clap

Elise has the right idea. Even a small contribution is well worth it for these organizations. Please share if you get anywhere with that - I will try to do it too .

I emailed back and forth to the Oregon Historical Society about your offer of donations, and they truly loved the fact that anyone wanted to donate to them. They were so appreciative!

They do NOT have a single donation button, but asked anyone who wanted to make a one-time contribution to contact:

I really wish someone had beaten her harder in handwriting class.

I guess we should have guessed a Doctor by the handwriting? lol :eusa_doh:

I've been off line for a long time now... life has a way of doing that sometimes. I'm glad to find out that someone finally found out who she was (THANKS VB!!!! :eusa_clap ) and confirmed that she had an amazing story....
