Can anyone help me identify when this suit was made?

This is my first post so I hope this is in the right forum! I recently bought this suit in a vintage shop in Liverpool and have had no luck in identifying what decade it is from. All the information I've found online is somewhat conflicting. I think the suit was tailor made as there are no labels at all inside and no rips where labels may have been.

The suit is quite slim fitting although it is marginally short on me, but I like it like this, as far as I can tell it is entirely made out of cotton, no wool. The jacket is quite boxy and features two buttons, shoulder pads, flap pockets and a single vent. The inside has thrww pockets and a striped silk lining to the sleeves. The trousers have no back pockets and no belt loops, but do have buttons to attach braces and tags at the side to tighten the trousers.

Really difficult to tell the date. To my untrained eye, I would guess it to be tailor made for a more mature man any time from the 1960s through to the 1980s.

But i could be very wrong.

Right, but I tend strongly towards 1960s. "Modern" Zipper and waistband tape combined with "older fashioned" brace buttons and adjusters. The low button stance and narrower lapels also point to that direction.

that Lightning zipper is most common on 60s-very early 70s suits. Along wit the style of the jacket, I would be saying this is a mod suit from the middle-late 60s.

Thanks guys! I was hoping it was a bit older than this but oh well! Given the era it was from what would you suggest I wear with it? I was thinking brown brogues and trilby?

I agree with the Baron. Seems English or European. No American suit of this era would have had the small pleat. What doe the bottoms look like? Taper? Very trim? Cuff? Don't feel too bad. This is a pretty sharp suit that would be sought after by any number of aficionados.

The bottoms taper slightly, I tried getting a picture but it didn't really work without the rest of the leg for perspective. Oh I love the suit, I got it for £25, super bargain! Was just hoping it was a bit older but I suppose 40-50 years isn't bad!

If you are looking for older suits, have a good look through the classifieds section in 'Goods & Services', you might find some good value, older suits. What style/period are you really looking for, and what size do you wear? Plenty of people on the FL have suits they want to pass on, you might get lucky.

The slant pockets and the two-button style of the jacket say to me "last half of the 1960s" - in agreement with the Baron.

Do you mean mod generically, or do you mean real mod? I know a lot about the history, background, etc of the mods. But very little about what the suits actually looked like, details, etc. I know they were patterned after Italian late 50s style, or so I think. And I know they were often custom tailored, often from Carnaby Street tailors. ANd I know they changed in style very quickly so as o keep ahead of the followers. Or so I gather from all the reading I have done. But anyone feel free to correct me, and anyone with descriptions or actual pics of true mod suits would be pretty cool to see.
