Can anyone help identify this sword?

Hey folks, I know only slightly more than nothing about German militaria, so I was hoping some of the knowledgeable folks on the lounge might be able to help. What I do is that my Grandpa, who was stationed in Wiesbaden, Germany from 1945 - 1950, pick this piece of swag up there.

I'm not an expert, but I did go through a phase where I was interested in German edged weapons. That looks to me like the standard 3rd Reich 1930s-40s German army officer (Heer) "Lion's Head" sword. Real experts could tell you if there are major differences on exact model or if there are specific sword makers or markings that would be more collectable or not. The German military (and others) had a tradition of various Lion Head style sabers before the Nazi's.

fftopic: But I had actually bought one years ago from a militaria place in Homestead Florida just days before a hurricane hit that town hard. Months later the place sent my check back saying their whole establishment was wipped out.

Chasseur is correct it is a WWII German Army Officers dress sword.

Pretty much every army used and still use a similarly styled dress sword. Surprisingly, that includes the Japanese during the 30's and 40's. We automatically think of them with their samurai swords but they also (again, for dress occasions) carried European style swords. This sword shows the swastika. Theirs will show the Royal Chrysanthemum.
