Can an open bottom girdle be worn without stockings?

I'm a long time user of bike short style control briefs because tummy & hips are my problem areas. What I don't like about them is how the inseams & crotch seams wear out long before the rest of the garment does. I figured an open bottom girdle would eliminate this problem because it has no seams in that area. But, I don't like wearing hose in summer.

The bottom of the girdle would flip up as you moved and would quickly drive you nuts -- it's made to be held in place by stockings. In the Era, there was a gimmick you could buy to defeat this -- a pair of wide, ribbed elastic rings you wore around your thighs like stocking welts. The girdle garters would clip on to these and hold the girdle bottom down -- you might get hold of some wide elastic and try running up a set of these and see if it works. I suspect, though, it might not be all that comfortable.

That's ingenious! I would never have thought of that! I actually do have some 1" wide waistband elastic somewhere in my sewing basket--will definitely try this.

As for comfort, I don't know that a pair of thigh garters would be any worse than the elastics at the bottom of my control briefs
