Can a Homburg's brim be reformed to a conventional fedora snap brim?

If it can:
1. Whom would you recommend to do it?

2. What is expense for the job?

3. To additionally render the crown as a tear drop, what would be the additional expense about brim reforming?

Easy to do. However.....

You could do the entire job yourself, just search some of the threads for conversions and you'll find plenty of info. However, there are numerous loungers who would most likely frown upon destroying a vintage Homburg in order to obtain a Fedora. You might want to consider trading it in the Classifieds section for a nice Fedora. That would be Win-Win situation.

It's difficult to find the fedora I want. For an unknown reason, my first Borsalino was dead nuts perfect, US 7-1/8, Uranio, 2.6-inch brim. And, of course, I am unable to replicate it. I've queried here, eBay, and several other places -- Bupkes! This Homburg is a close as I've come. I am more than willing to trade out. I don't think the line of traders will be long. It's not pleasant, but there it is.

I am comfortable increasing hat size or doing a V-slot bash. But brim reforming and tear drop are actions I'm not comfortable attempting.

I still think someone from here will offer you a very nice fedora in exchange for the vintage homburg.

If you insist on going forward...
For the crown, A little bit of steam is all it takes. The Brim... use a steam Iron. not too hot now!
and be sure to put some fabric, like a t-shirt between the brim and the iron. Don't leave the iron is one place for more than a couple of seconds or you'll scorch the brim. I would buy a beater off of e-bay, thrift store ect... and practice on it first. These are skills you will want to hone eventually anyway.

Option 2,

Send it to a hatter and get it done for $30 to $50.00.

;)

I would consider the type of fedora you are looking for and buy it. The hat you have now may be worth more and look better as is. After many years of buying hats I have come to realize that with a bit of patience you will find the exact hat you want sooner than later.
