The Sheene is nice, but there's something really classic about the Highwayman. I'll have another go at one eventually.

In your position, I wouldn't even consider the regular Highwayman model again. Instead, I'd be looking at the Premier 1930s HWM:

If Aero were open to switching out the button cuffs for a zip sleeve, you'd have something more early 60s in style, not a million miles away from a Lewis Corsair in style:

Problem is, I'm skinny, but I'm not slim - not by a long shot. Which got me to think that perhaps those slim fitting jackets like the J106 and the CR (or Sheene) simply aren't really meant for me... So I'm thinking I should try my luck with one of the boxy styles, the kind of stuff Styleforum would refer to as 'dad-jackets' because we all know that anything Styleforum dislikes can only be a good thing.

So it's either 38 or 40 for me... I wish I could be sure of sz. 40 waist width.

And Edward, why did you had to bring out a Corsair! Just when I finally force myself to forget about LL, this comes up. I need at least one LL jacket. Now.

Yes, that would be good. I think it's a really clever piece of design. It looks exactly like the 30s prototype Highwayman that never was, rather than a cut-up version of the regular Highwayman, if you follow.

Here are some pics of my 9 months old Zip Sleeve HWM, brown CXL steer, size 38 tapered to size 36, side straps cinched in half-way.





Pit-to-pit: 57cm
Waist: 49cm
Back: 63cm

My chest: 104cm
My waist: 80cm

71kg, 173cm. I take a size 40 in shirts.

Man, that Steer looks thick! I know it's only supposed to be like 1oz difference, right? But it looks twice the weight of a CXL HH. Did Aero taper that jacket for you? The jacket fits you great!

Yes, my good man! 4.5oz steer instead of 3oz FQHH. The jacket is a size 38 tapered to size 36. I'd say, contact Thurston about what size you'd need and buy one size bigger than what they advise & have it tapered a size down. Sure, the HWM is a boxy fit but going down 2 sizes from your regular suit size just makes the jacket look ridiculous IMO.

I have a recent stock size 40 HWM the pit to pit is 23.25" and the waist with side clinch pulled in to with in .75" of the max the waist measures 18" I have a 43 chest and wear 33 -34 waist jeans. I like the fit moved down from a size 44 HWM i had 10 years.

jonbuilder, thank you so much for the really detailed info. I'm around 42 chest and same as you in jeans waist, so I think a size 40 should work for me just fine.

Mendel, did you have Aero taper the jacket??

I also have a tapered MWM I am chest 40" and my HWM is size 40 tapered to 38 with zipped sleeves FQHH .
The taper works very well my waist is 34" I am 6 ft and the back of my jacket is 27"
I am very pleased with the result

Robson, thanks for the info. Do you think you should've went with the 38 from the start? How's the shoulders on the 40?

In other news, today I tried on a standard Aero HWM in 44 and the fits me almost perfectly.

Shoulders are 19" no problems there, I could fit a 38 but its not comfortable to me, I tried the 38 when I was in a shop in Germany but I like a bit of room to move and I want to be able to layer shirts when the weather gets cold. Leather doesn't isolate very well, when it gets below 10 C you can use a extra layer.
