Ah yes! I've seen collars like that before. The wardrobe of the Austin Powers movies often used them as a '60s style detail on the suits/sport coats he wore. I think it looks rather snazzy on a high fastening DB.

They did seem to have a fairly '60s cut with the three button center vent jacket and trim trousers. Conservative '60s, for sure. I only noticed this, of course, after watching the film just last year. The JFK-era Secret Service look was probably intentional -- The Matrix also drew inspiration from it for the look of the Agents (albeit in a much more sinister way).

I have just noticed this interesting thread. I have just read through and would like to interject a comment or two!

My father was a MOD in the 60s, he had an SX200, with all the lights etc, used to have all of his suits tailor made by a Jewish tailor in the city I think. I will find some pictures of him, and with his permission post them. I know that his suits were very stylish at that time.

He had to sell his scooter though when he met my mum, as my gran would not allow her on it. He bought a canary yellow Ford Anglia instead!

As for the Who debate, looking on my dads IPOD, he only has one Who Albulm, he liked them, but they certainly were not that influential, I think the MODs were more influential on the Who than the other way round.

His favourite club was the Ram Jam in Brixton, I have found a link to a 1967 flyer on line, Perhaps my Dad actaully went to one of these gigs?

i'd go along with the sentiments regarding the who ...they were effectively a band looking for a scene and found the mod one .

original mods would have went to jazz clubs , R&B clubs etc before their own artists such as the small faces , the action , georgie fame & the blue flames etc came to the fore .

the mod look is very specific and is all about fit and detail , lapel width, cuff detailing , vent detailing etc and did change week by week and i'm too old for it now :D hence the reason i now dress the way i do being an older gentleman of 36 ;)

Whoa -- just found this thread. I remember all my friends were into Punk, or New Wave, or Metal, when I first saw Quadrophenia in 1980 or so -- and that's when I knew I wanted to be like THAT.

I still drive a classic two-cycle scooter to work when it's not cold, and have often wondered how best to combine a love for vintage with a sense of safety. Three-piece suit or ballistic nylon riding gear with crash pads? Fedora or helmet? Messenger bag or black hard sided briefcase? So far I haven't figured it out, so my sense of style can sometimes seem bipolar.
