Hi guys, this will be my first leather jacket and wondering if you can recommend what jacket from Real Mccoys is an iconic piece.

I'm looking for something that won't stand out so the J-22 or J-24 with a lot of pockets will be a no go.

Thanks!

I’ve been loving my J100. It’s one of their cleanest designs.

So it’s needs to be RMC, but you don‘t have a design in mind yet. That’s an expensive way to start a journey.

A nice, casual ‘civilian’ design is the ‘Nelson’ sports jacket. A more outgoing one would be the appropriately named ’Mobster’.

RMC has quite a reputation for military repros. There various A-2 models are worth a look if you into that niche. I also like their G-1.

Thanks for the suggestion! I'm leaning more into A-2 now, didn't realize theres so many different types. I'll probably forego RMC as they went with their own version. I kind of want a good repro one. Are you familiar with A-2 jackets on which is the most iconic?

Well, you are sure quick to change your mind.

RMC makes a good A-2, but if your are set on an accurate repro (ARE you set on anything yet?), my fave would be Eastman. Maybe Aero too, but the former has nicer hides IMO.

I would suggest looking around until you find a jacket style you actively really like.

Then see what manufacturers make jackets in that or a similar style.

Then buy the one you like the most, at the price you're happy to pay.

Otherwise it seems like your decision making is all backwards.

Thanks Barnabus, I'll go about it that way and work from there. appreciate the suggestion!

Why are you starting with brand first, rather than your needs for a jacket, and why are there two different brands in your title (Buzz Rickson's) and post (Real McCoys)?

Sorry for the confusion, I edited it afterward and forgo RMC. Now debating on Eastman or Buzz Rickson A-2.

Use case is just owning a long lasting Item

May I ask why you're thinking of an A-2 in particular?

Not to knock A-2s, but I think it's helpful to get a sense of what kind of jacket you want or need, before giving specific answers. Often people will come in saying they want X or Y but they mean Z, or they end up vastly preferring W.

Mostly because I'm a fan of military repros and the jacket doesn't stand out much, other jackets have too many pockets which seem flashy to me.

I own a MA-1 bomber jacket, M65 field jacket and like the history behind them. the A-2 seems to be lowkey compared to the jackets I've been seeing posted.

Thanks for asking these questions.

The 22752 Rough wear Eastman is the one I am eyeing right now.

Which jackets are your favorites btw?

We have a similar taste in jackets it seems.

If you're not stuck on an A-2 in particular, as military flight jackets go, you should look at the US Navy pilot jackets (M-422A/AN-6552/AN-J-3/G-1) which are similar but have a far better pattern. (The Navy was given a higher budget per pilot.) The AN-J3 is kind of a hybrid of the two.

Eastman and Aero both do great ones. In your shoes, I would consider the Aero AN-J-3 which would cover all the bases, has the A-2 look with the superior Navy pattern, and comes in a beautiful and bulletproof material that feels pretty much identical to my actual wartime ones.
