Howdy folks, a quick one for those who own a BR Nylon B-15C/D jacket.
From the measurements it looks like I should downsize. I usually wear a 40/42
in most but the size 38 B-15C from Buzz Rickson measures a healthy 23 inches pit to pit. Can anyone shed some light on the sizing of these fine jackets. Should I go down a size ? Thanks a lot for yer help.

I had a BR B-15B in s42, I usually take a 42 and the fit was perfect- I couldn't have practically gone a smaller in this jacket, although I can fit a s40 sometimes, in other jackets(more modern, loose sizing, or modern American sizing which can be looser than UK/Euro.).
I've also had a couple of L-2s from BR in my correct size and have a Tanker in my size. All were perfectly sized. The temptation to down-size can often end in disappointment. The BR jackets have a "good fit", rather than a sloppy "mall fit", so whatever fits you in the chest will look good and be comfortable.

daddy-o, remember that that healthy 23" on the s38, must be the external measurement, on a padded jacket.
Take into account the padding, around the whole jacket(compare this to a thin, unpadded jkt.) and a little breathing space and that little extra is all gone. The "padding" is the old style wadding/batting and doesn't have as much "give" as polyfill.

Thanks for your posts. I am aware that the measurements our outside and one must take into acount the padding. Thinking about it more ,I should go for a size 40 but unfortunately it is only the 38 size which is reduced.....

As has been discussed many times before and all things being equal, an allowance of *4"* is generally made, over the advertised chest size, so a labeled s38 should allow for about a 42" inside measurement and a s40, 44" inside. Would an approximate inside measure of 42" (the s38) be suitable..?
I have mentioned, my s42 fit me about perfectly(and I don't like a loose fit) and my chest is about 41", so that means about 5" of ease, to make it work for me.
If your chest is large than 38", I think you'd be cutting it close.

It doesn't seem that there's a lot of room for guessing about potentially-too-small sizes and fit.

But then, you never know and I don't have the B-15B anymore, to measure.

Maybe some of the guys on the Irvin Jacket thread would have some useful input, they are into the Buzz Rickson jackets.

Rufus, John Lever, et al, have some experience of BR jackets and those two may even be around s38.
