hey people check out burtons uk website they have a new range called heritage, its a ranges using patterns from 40's 50's and 60's and it looks quite good they even have buttons for braces in trouser and also the slit in back of trousers.

ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE

If (a huge 'if') they have used original patterns, none of them are from before the early 1960s. The waistcoats are abysmal. This is not the original Burton's patterns from the 40s and 50s or 60s that i know. You can get this stuff (the 'Heritage' offerings) from H & M and Topshop much cheaper. And the trousers. My God, take a standard pair of modern trousers, stitch in some suspender buttons and put a notch on the waistband - though, of course, leave the bum-hugger rise of the trousers - and Lo! and behold! a vintage-inspired pair of trousers? Methinks not

Very disappointing to say the least. "Contemporary slim suiting inspired by Burton's own archives from the 40's, 50's and 60's." says it all. Oh dear me. What people will fall for. Does anyone actually believe these look like 40s, 50s or 60s suits??? [huh]

Not impressed. The waistcoats/vests are far too short or the trousers/pants too low waisted. They don't even look all that great as modern suits.Too tight, one of the guys looks as if he could be related to Max Wall.:D :D

Interestingly this was featured on a program about tailoring the other night. They showed the Burton designers looking at some very nice original suits from Burton's original collection. However, they showed no finished products. The designers were talking about the linings and the quality, and that is what they wanted to return to!

Reference to classic styling is commonly used by retailers when discussing products. Rather than referencing such details as actual guides used in a particular look, it is simply a selling point. They promise all of the quality (real and/or imagined) of the past w/out the actual details. Terms like "updated, modernized" are used as an excuse for not providing what is promised.

Oldest sales strategy in the book. "We'll pretend to sell you what you want, but we know you don't really want it."

Usually works, but when it backfires, it results in a p!ssed off consumer faced with a totally uncaring merchandiser.

I was interested to hear about this as there is a branch near me, but one quick peek was enough to disappoint me. i would rather one of their modern suits as the 'heritage' seem to be neither one thing nor the other. however- their 100% cotton 'grandad' shirts are the Biz!

Do you mean the Henley-style ones? Like proper old long-sleeve vests? Good value. But will they tuck in or are they made to wear hanging out over jeans?

I saw that Ben. Awful Paul Smith things too on that piece. But if I remember correctly, the Burton's Design Team did say that they were not going to do 'exact period copies' for the modern man, but rather 'be inspired' by former period pieces. AS soon as they said that, I knew it would be a total 'cop out!!' [huh]
If you want vintage, then buy vintage, but today's High Street Burton suit is a universe away from the golden days of Montague Burton.
