I could not locate a prior thread devoted to the subject (difficult as I find it to believe) and so am starting one.

What types of card cases do you gentlemen own or recommend?

I have been wanting a leather one, and have long had my eye on Fort Belvedere's https://www.gentlemansgazette.com/shop/accessories/leather-goods/small-leather-goods

But I remain someone aghast at the price of those - I fear they would end up looking dingy or battered after a few years.

For me, the metal frame would be a big turn off as the last thing I need is another heavy and rigid thing to put in my pockets. I've always used a soft, leather card case which can be had, based on the quality of the leather, stitching and number of sleeves, for prices ranging from the low teens to hundreds of dollars depending on your preferences and budget.

That said, there is a cool "throwback" vibe to the metal cases as I've seen vintage versions in antique stores / flee markets for years. If you do go the metal route, I'd look for a vintage one as I'm pretty confident you could find one for the same or less money than the new ones you are looking at. And as to getting "beat up," that, IMHO, is just the patina of time which is attractive in its own "I've been used as part of your life" way.

I agree about the beat up thing. A quality item should be in it for the long haul - patina, scratches, dents and wear are great. We are too obsessed with shiny pristine things these days.

I use a custom real leather iphone fold-over case which has some slots to hold cards. I find this the best option for business cards. I have kept an i-phone 5 as it is smaller than the newer ones thus not so bulky to hide

Here's mine; a pocket for my cards, another for the ones I pick up. Simple, portable, elegant...

What brand do you have?

I am also one of those people who uses iPhone fold-over cases (and as I have never suffered a cracked screen I think they are worth it) but have never found a brand which would not bleed onto the cards. Even after years of use.

I use the Business Card Wallet in Chestnut from Saddleback Leather. It works for me now, but when I first used it, I had some problems that I soon solved by simply putting an old ID (backwards) in front of the cards on each side. The plastic ID’s added rigidity—before, the cards would get slightly curved. They also protect the top card, as it used to both get an impression from the edge of the leather as well as stained (normal with new leather). After adding the plastic, it works quite well.

Sorry, can-t remember, but I think she was German and I was a returning customer. Yep, it does bleed a bit on the business cards and so I 'hide' them in the hidden slot. another good thing is that the closure is not with the magnets that can ruin credit cards or magnetic bands.
