Hello all,

Here is a hat I bought at the Burlington Coat Factory. The hat says that is is fur felt. I don't know what kind of felt it is, but I offered it a bowl of milk and threw a ball past it, and it didn't move.

Here here is the interior, with a cloth hat band:

Here is the hat after I stripped it, and installed a new ribbon, and gave it a more classic bash:

Here is the liner, which I made from fabric store satin:

Here is the interior, with the new liner, and a leather sweatband:

All I need to do now is make the little bow on the back, and I'm done! Oh yes, I'm doing the same to a black fedora I bought. By the way, they both cost me $16 a piece.

Terrific job, Lorne! Speaking as one who has entered the world of BCF mods, I can assert that it's loads of fun as well as a hat collection expansion on a shoestring! Just finished two myself, one for a fellow lounger, and one I might offer at some point if I can keep finding new ones so I can have some variety as well. Love the liner. Thought about that myself. My next goal is hand sewn bound edge. Have to be in the sewing mood for that.

Still looking for your size, RBH, at BCF. I'm looking to provide you with something special when it turns up.

Thanks Dean!!!!!

Hey, RBH, I need to know; would a generous 7 3/8 fit you, or does it have to be squarely inside of 7 1/2? In other words could you live iwth a hat that says "L" or should it be "XL"? I have purchased an "XL" for a couple of Loungers, and believe me they seem big enough for a small town water tower!
I know it depends on the hat, but I'll bet you could stretch one of the $16.98 specials, they usually have fabric sweatbands. Some don't. Some do. Any idea would help the search! Gracias, amiego!

What are you saying? lol
That I have a big head? lol
Anyway our water tower wears ball caps.lol

A 7 3/8 with the cloth band would likely fit fine. I leave it in you capable hands.

Yep...

The Burlington store here has a very nice tan Huckel fedora for $34. It has a bound brim and leather sweatband which states "fur felt." Frankly I was a little surprised by the look and feel of it, which was more quality than I expected. I'll see if I can get a picture of it next time I'm in there.

I've only seen one tan Huckel with bound brim and it was 6 3/4 size. They are nice hats
